Best Team Fits for 2021 Top Prospects

Owen Power, LHD, Michigan

Age: 18

Owen Power is a big 6’5 defenseman from the University of Michigan and is expected to be the first pick in the 2021 draft. Power has the potential to be a top pairing defenseman in the NHL and does not have any big weaknesses in his game.

Team Fits
Buffalo Sabres: The Sabres currently have the best odds at the first overall pick and Power would be a great no. 2 defensemen behind Rasmus Dahlin.

Detroit Red Wings: Power could stay in Michigan if he gets drafted by the Red Wings, who could use a future #1 LHD next to Moritz Seider.

New Jersey Devils: The Devils are missing that true #1 defensemen and Power is that guy.

Matthew Beniers, C, Michigan

Matthew Beniers is a great 2-way center and is projected to be the best center in this draft. Beniers plays a good 200-foot game and is responsible on both ends on the ice. Beniers has the potential to be a top 6 center in the NHL.

Team Fits
Columbus Blue Jackets: The Blue Jackets desperately need a first line center to play with Patrick Laine. Beniers would be a perfect fit and would complement Laine’s playing style.

Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings could draft Beniers to have a great 1/2 center punch with Larkin and Beniers.

Buffalo Sabres: With Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart both requesting trades from Buffalo, Beniers would be an immediate replacement for them.

Dylan Guenther, LW, Edmonton

Guenther is a big scoring winger and is considered the best winger in the draft class. Guenther has the ability to make plays, score goals, and play physically. He has the potential to be a top 6 scoring winger.

Anaheim Ducks: The Ducks are in need of a goal-scoring winger and Guenther would be a perfect fit next to Trevor Zegras.

Seattle Kraken: The Kraken can start their franchise with a big scoring winger that can make an immediate impact.

Los Angeles Kings: The Kings already have a stacked center core and now need to add wingers around them.

Luke Hughes, LHD, USHL

Luke Hughes is an excellent offensive defenseman and has one of the highest ceilings in this class. Hughes has great skating abilities that make him a phenomenal puck-moving defenseman. Hughes has the potential to be a top-pairing defensemen

New Jersey Devils: The Devils need a true #1 defensemen and could reunite the Hughes Brothers, Jack and Luke.

Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings can draft hometown boy Luke Hughes, who will be Seider’s future defense partner.

Seattle Kraken: The Kraken could draft the player with one of the highest ceilings and a potential future #1 defenseman.

Brandt Clarke, RHD, Barrie/Slovakia

Brandt Clarke is a strong two-way defenseman and is by far the best RHD prospect in the draft. Clarke has excellent hockey sense and is good on both ends of the ice. Clarke has the potential to be a top-pairing defenseman.

Vancouver Canucks: Clarke would be Quinn Hughes’ future defense partner.

New Jersey Devils: Clarke would be Ty Smith’s future defense partner.

Buffalo Sabres: Clarke would be Rasmus Dahlin’s future defense partner.

Kent Johnson, C/LW, Michigan

Kent Johnson is a skilled and flashy winger/center and has one of the highest ceilings in the draft. Johnson is a great playmaker and can make huge plays. Johnson has the potential to be a top 6 forward.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Johnson would be the perfect playmaker next to Patrik Laine in Columbus.

Seattle Kraken: The Kraken would love to have a highly skilled and potential forward to start their team.

Buffalo Sabres: With Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart both requesting trades from Buffalo, Johnson would be a replacement for them.

Simon Edvinsson, LHD, Frolunda

Simon Edvinsson is a big and mobile defensemen and is one of the most high risk players in the draft. Edvinsson is a puck moving defenseman that can do it all. He has the potential to be a top 4 two-way defensemen.

New Jersey Devils: The Devils are in need of defensive prospects.

Detroit Red Wings: Yzerman loves to go with high risk, high reward prospects, and Edvinsson would be a perfect fit.

Seattle Kraken: The Kraken could get a high potential defenseman to build up their team.

William Eklund, C/LW, Djurgardens IF

William Eklund is a skilled and crafty forward and is considered one of the best playmakers in the draft. Eklund has a great hockey IQ which allows him to make big plays. Eklund has the potential to be a top 6 forward.

Team Fits

Ducks: Eklund would be a great playmaking winger for Zegras.

Blue Jackets: Eklund would be the perfect playmaker next to Laine.

Senators: Ecklund adds to their deep forward prospect pool.

Jesper Wallstedt, G, Lulea HF

GP: 22 W: 12 GAA: 2.23 SV%: 0.908

Jesper Wallstedt is one of the best goaltender prospects we have seen in recent memory and has the potential to be an elite goaltender in the NHL. He is very athletic and was dominant this year in the SHL and junior tournaments

Team Fits
San Jose Sharks: The Sharks haven’t had a franchise goaltender in a while and Wallstedt would perfectly fit their team.

Detroit Red Wings: They already have solid forward and defensive prospects, now need a goalie for the future.

Seattle Kraken: Having an elite goaltender would be a great start to their franchise.
