The Arizona Cardinals have acquired tight end Zach Ertz via trade. In return for Ertz, the Cardinals are sending cornerback Tay Gowan and a 2022 fifth-round pick. Arizona will take on the remainder of Ertz’s $5.6 million salary.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Friday.
Ertz had reportedly been wanting a trade out of Philadelphia for a significant amount of time. He got his wish as he is sent to the only undefeated team remaining in the NFL. The 5-0 Cardinals lost their starting tight end Maxx Williams to a season-ending knee injury, supplementing him through this transaction.
He has 18 receptions for 189 yards and two touchdowns on the 2021 season. Ertz scored one of those touchdowns in Thursday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That Thursday game will preclude him from being able to play in the Cardinals’ Week 6 matchup against the Browns.
