The franchise formerly known as the Washington Redskins are going to be referred to as the Washington Football Team next season as a placeholder until they can figure out a new name and mascot for the franchise according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Washington team will go by “Washington Football Team” until an official new name is adopted.

On July 13 the Washington Football Team removed its “Redskins” name and logo and has been trying to figure out what the franchise will be called going forward.
This placeholder is most likely in place due to how little time the franchise has to reinvent its image before the season and the rumored copyright issues with the options that they were considering.
The franchise felt pressure to change their name after some of their largest sponsors FedEx, Nike, and PepsiCo pressed that the team make the change.
