The Minnesota Vikings are releasing a veteran wide receiver. 32-year-old Adam Thielen is being cut by the Vikings, making him a free agent. Due to his salary and cap hit, Thielen would have had to take a significant pay cut to stay with the team.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Friday.
Thielen was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota State back in 2013. Since being brought into the fold, he has a Second Team All-Pro selection, two Pro Bowl nods and hold the NFL record for consecutive games with 100-plus receiving yards, with eight.
He played in all 17 games last year, gathering 70 receptions on 107 targets for 716 yards and seven scores. Despite his production, Thielen has only two seasons in which he had over 1,000 yards (2017 and 2018). Those were his Pro Bowl seasons. Any team may now negotiate with him.
