Running back Tony Pollard and the Dallas Cowboys have failed to come to an agreement on a long-term contract. The franchise tag deadline passed at 4:00pm ET, and now Pollard must play under the tag for the next season.
NFL insider Dov Kleiman reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Pollard was thrust into the number one running back role last season, and delivered in a big way. So much so that Ezekiel Elliott is no longer a Cowboy. He rushed for 1,007 and nine scores in 16 games (just four starts) last season. He added 371 yards and three more touchdowns through the air.
Now that he isn’t making money long term, Pollard can either choose to play the entire year on the franchise tag, hold out completely, or maybe come into the fold later in the year to help keep himself fresh for his next contract season.
