All-Pro edge rusher TJ Watt has agreed to a three-year contract extension worth up to $123 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. In the contract $108 million will be guaranteed. He is now the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history.
Watt, 30, is a seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro. In his career, he has 108 sacks and 126 tackles for loss. Last season for the Steelers, he racked up 11.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss.
The Steelers were knocked out of the first round of the playoffs last season and have been working to improve their roster. Re-signing Watt was a priority, but they also acquired quarterback Aaron Rodgers, wide receiver DK Metcalf and cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was part of the deal to acquire Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith, so the Steelers will have plenty of new faces helping them compete this season.
