Tim Tebow to Return to the NFL as a Tight End?

Publish Date: May 15, 2021

Tim Tebow, famously known as the quarterback for the Denver Bronco’s, is reportedly returning to NFL, this time as a tight end.

Tebow last played in the NFL as a practice squad member for Philadelphia Eagles in 2015. Now, according to aol.com Tebow is now making a comeback, as the new tight-end of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Head coach Urban Meyer, had this to say about the idea of signing Tebow.

“He was in the best shape of his life, asked to see if he could workout with a couple of our coaches,” Meyer said. “I wasn’t even there. They came back to me and said, ‘Wow, this guy’s in incredible shape.’ Then, I went another time and watched them try him out. And they said go work on these things. He comes back later, they try him out again — I’m not there ― they come in and they said, ‘Wow, this guy’s ball skills, he’s a great athlete, he looks like he’s 18 years old, not … 33.’ I said, ‘Guys you don’t understand, now this guy is the most competitive maniac you’re ever gonna talk to and let’s give it a shot.’”

Tebow played for the Bronco’s from 2010 to 2012, before the Bronco’s signed quarterback legend Peyton Manning to the team. Tebow was well known for expressing his faith on the field, which was famously coined “Tebowing.”

Not Everyone is Happy about Time Tebow News

While fans of Tim Tebow celebrate his potential return to the NFL, not everyone is happy about the news. ESPN analyst Keyshawn Johnson thinks Tebow joining the Jaguars as a tight-end is the wrong move.

Urban Meyer decides he’s going to reach out, or whatever, his quarterback reached out to him from college in Tim Tebow, who was a fabulous college quarterback, not so well in the pros, eight years removed,” Johnson said on ESPN.

Johnson also thinks that signing Tebow could also damage Meyers’s relationship with the team, as well.

What Meyer has to understand is there’s going to be people in that building and in that locker room that is not going to like it if they sign him. And that could potentially fracture something that you’re trying to build. It’s not going to bridge a gap. It’s going to cause a gap in that bridge with that locker room.” Johnson added.

The Jaguars have yet to make Tebow’s signing official but did say the decision would be made “fairly soon”
