The Philadelphia Eagles Rundown: April 7

Publish Date: April 7, 2021

This is the first edition of The Philadelphia Eagles Rundown This series will consist of Eagles rumors and newsworthy events that happen within the Eagles organization. This could be anything from charitable events that the Eagles are participating in, to player and game analysis once the NFL season begins. Lastly, this series will cover rumors and changes to the Eagles roster. The topic of this edition will be on the Russel Wilson trade rumors and the Eagles making number changes to some of their key players on the roster.

Could Russell Wilson become an Eagle?

There have been trade rumors involving Russell Wilson possibly becoming the newest Eagles quarterback as early as next season, according to an NFL Executive. The NFL executive stated that the Eagles are the front runners for Russell Wilson next season. The Seahawks plan to keep Wilson around this season in hopes their star quarterback can produce a championship season. If the 2021 season does not work out for the Seahawks and Wilson, then the Eagles and the Seahawks could work out a deal that would bring Wilson to Philadelphia. This comes after the Eagles traded down in the draft from the 6th overall pick to the 12th overall pick. The Eagles could be saving up draft picks to be able to make the trade a reality next year.

Wilson is still one of the league’s premier quarterbacks and had a stellar year with the Seahawks in 2020. The Seattle quarterback had over 4,000 passing yards and 40 touchdowns in the 2020 season. He was also highly accurate with a 68.8 completion percentage. The Seahawks product also had 13 interceptions last season, which is a fair amount, but all his touchdown passes make up for his interceptions. Wilson earned a Pro Bowl bid this season. He took his team to the playoffs, but lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the wildcard round. This was a very disappointing ending with how good Wilson and Seahawks were the whole season.

The quarterback situation could be very different for the Eagles in the 2022 season. Let’s not give up on Jalen Hurts, though. If Hurts can prove to the Eagles organization that he can win with the Eagles, then the Eagles may think twice about trading for Wilson and will use their draft pick to build around Hurts next year.

Number changes to key Eagles roster players

The most noticeable number change was to the jersey of Jalen Hurts. Hurts, who was number 2 last season, will play as number 1 this year. This is interesting since Hurts is more than likely the front runner for the Eagles starting quarterback this coming season. The number 1 is a very telling sign that the Eagles organization are going to stick with the electrifying rookie from last season and make him QB 1.  This will also make Hurts the first non-specialist to wear a number 1 in Eagles history, according to Eagles’ social media. The newest Eagles quarterback, Joe Flacco, will be wearing jersey number 7 this upcoming season. Another newly signed Eagle, Anthony Harris, will be number 28 this season. Harris was number 41 during his time with the Vikings. The full list of number changes will be listed below.

New Eagles Jersey Numbers:

Jalen Hurts- #1

Kalil Tate- #6

Joe Flacco- #7

Arryn Siposs- #8

Quez Watkins- #18

Andrew Adams- #21

Anthony Harris- #28
