The 2023 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 27 as the first round picks are announced. The second and third rounds take place on Friday, and the whole thing wraps up with the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday. TGH will be taking a quick look at the first few picks for some teams, and shedding some light on what direction they will go. Here is the Tennessee Titans NFL Draft profile for 2023.
The Titans are in limbo as far as contending versus rebuilding. Reportedly, they are still shopping Derrick Henry which would no doubt shake up their draft by any estimation. But, for now, the Titans should be looking at an offensive tackle, a wide receiver, a tight end and some defensive backfield depth.
Pick #11: Paris Johnson, OT, Ohio State
Drafting at number 11 this year might as well be drafting at number seven or higher, given that four quarterbacks might be selected along with players at positions that the Titans do not need to address right now. So this first pick could go a lot of ways.
But Paris Johnson, the offensive tackle out of Ohio State, is a safe pick here. He’s (maybe) the top tackle in this draft and spending a top pick on your blindside protector of the future is a very admirable way to go. Johnson allowed just two sacks and only 12 hurries on a high-powered offense last season and will slot in right away to an NFL roster.
Pick #41: Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee
Hyatt does not exactly fit the size mold to replace the loss of A.J. Brown, but he is certainly lightning fast. A team that runs the ball as much and as effectively as the Titans try to needs a truly explosive athlete to convince the opposing defense to play a little softer.
Some people see him as a one-trick pony but Hyatt has the potential to be a big play receiver on every passing down. His separation is excellent when defenses play him softly and he has the potential to be a successful underneath threat, too. There will be other good wide receivers at 41, but maybe the Tennessee connection convinces the Titans to go with Hyatt here.
Pick #72: Jammie Robinson, S, Florida State
A true strong safety could be the pick in the third round if the rest of the draft plays out like it does above. Kevin Byard is still technically on the team, but that could change and Amani Hooker had a very down year.
He’s a bit more interception-happy than most other third round-graded safeties, which is a good thing considering how much he’ll be switching from the box to coverage with the Titans. Tennessee needs some help on the back end, so maybe they address this sooner, but Robinson is a nice pick up if they don’t.
