The New England Patriots’ star cornerback, Stephon Gilmore, has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP). This means Gilmore will miss at least six weeks of the 2021 NFL season as he recovers from surgery on his quad muscle.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday morning.
Gilmore is recognized as one of the best cornerbacks in the entire NFL. Since being a top-10 draft pick in 2012, he has racked up multiple accolades. He won 2019’s Defensive Player of the Year, has earned four Pro Bowl selections, two First Team All-Pro selections and led the NFL in interceptions in 2019. Gilmore also won Super Bowl 53 with the New England Patriots.
In Week 15 of the 2020 season, he tore a quadriceps muscle, which required surgery. He is still unable to perform and will be kept off the field for at least six games.
