Steelers To Host Free Agent Visit for Former Pro Bowler Melvin Ingram

Publish Date: July 19, 2021

Melvin Ingram III, currently a free agent, is set to travel to Pittsburgh, to possibly joining the Pittsburgh Steelers defense.

Nearly a month after Trai Turner’s arrival, Pittsburgh is preparing to host free-agent pass rusher Melvin Ingram lll, who spent the first nine years of his career with Los Angeles, on a visit this week. At least according to NFL Insider at CBS Sports, Jason La Canfora.

“Steelers remain on the hunt for pass-rush help. Had interest in Juston Houston but that does not appear to be a match. Will bring in Melvin Ingram for a visit this week and possibly others.” Jason La Canfora tweeted.

He also reported that “the Steelers are seeking help for that spot.”

However, the Steelers aren’t the only ones that are looking to get a hold of Ingram.

The Chiefs are Closing in on Melvin Ingram

Ingram also visited the Chiefs earlier in the offseason and seems set on signing him to the team. Bleacher Report also noted that signing Ingram is one of the best moves the team can make this offseason.

Bleacher Report writers analyzed that:

“A visit indicates interest by both parties. The Chiefs aren’t up against the salary cap. They don’t have the room to overpay, either. Still, Ingram’s potential addition could have a drastic effect with 43 sacks in the previous five campaigns before last season’s knee injury.

Aside from Frank Clark, who faces a felony charge for illegal possession of a firearm, no other Chiefs edge-defender managed more than three sacks last season.”

However, they also noted that “A visit that doesn’t end in a deal, particularly later in the free-agency process, usually indicates the two sides are far apart on financials.  However, as training camp nears and even begins, the free agent will be more motivated to sign.”

Will Ingram end up with the Steelers or Chiefs? Only time will tell.
