Ron Rivera announced that Sam Howell would be the starting quarterback of the Washington Commanders on Friday.
Howell, 22, was a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by Washington out of North Carolina. In one game last season, Howell passed for 169 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 57.9 percent completion.
This offseason, the Commanders signed Jacoby Brissett to compete for the job. The Commanders elected to go with the younger Howell heading into the 2023 season.
