Quarterback Russell Wilson is leaving the NFL and finalizing a deal to become a CBS Sports analyst, as confirmed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.
Wilson will reportedly replace Matt Ryan on CBS’ The NFL Today pregame show after Ryan opted to return to the Atlanta Falcons as the organization’s president of football.
Wilson had the opportunity to join the New York Jets as a backup quarterback last month but stated that he was weighing his options, including making the transition to television.
It is still unclear whether Wilson is taking a break from the NFL or retiring, but he will remain in the NFL spotlight by providing commentary and analysis during the upcoming season.
Wilson has had a long and successful NFL career that included 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, two with the Denver Broncos, one with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and last season with the New York Giants where he played in only six games.
Wilson’s storied NFL career includes winning Super Bowl XLVIII, becoming a 10-time Pro Bowler, and winning the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
Wilson, 37, has also thrown for a total of 46,966 yards, 353 touchdowns, and 114 interceptions to go along with 5,568 rushing yards and 31 rushing touchdowns during his 14 NFL seasons.
