The Rockets have found their next head coach after the team parted ways with Stephen Silas following a 59-117 record over three years. Former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka will be up next at the position for the Rockets.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Udoka took the Boston Celtics head coach job in June of 2021. During his first season as coach, he took the Celtics to the NBA Finals, but lost in six games to the Golden State Warriors. He finished the season with a 51-31 record.
In September of 2022, the Celtics suspended Udoka for the entire 2022-2023 season after reports surfaced of an “improper intimate relationship” between him and a female member of the Celtics’ staff. He apologized for the incident but did not step down as head coach until he was officially replaced by Joe Mazzulla in February of 2023. The details of his contract with the Rockets are unknown at time of writing.
