Robert Tonyan Suffers Torn ACL Against Cardinals

Robert Tonyan Torn ACL

Robert Tonyan went down with a knee injury against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football. It is now confirmed that he tore his ACL and is out for the season. His agent posted the news on social media.

Tonyan, 27, has played in the NFL and for the Packers for four seasons. He emerged as the starting tight end in 2020. In 2020, he totaled 52 receptions for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns. This season, he had 18 catches for 204 yards and two touchdowns in eight games played.

With Tonyan being out for the year, the Packers will be relying on Mercedes Lewis and Josiah Deguara at tight end. Lewis nearly caught a touchdown pass against the Cardinals, but ended up being out of bounds. There seemed to be some miscommunication with Deguara and where he was lining up that will need to be sorted out in the coming weeks.

Lewis is 37 years old, while Deguara was drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
