The New York Jets have hired 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their new head coach according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Saleh has never been a coach in the NFL, but has been a defensive coach in the NFL since 2005. He has coached for the Texans, Seahawks, Jaguars and 49ers. As defensive coordinator for the 49ers, he helped the team reach the Super Bowl after the 2019 season.
The Jets will look to Saleh for a culture change after they fired Adam Gase, who won two games this season.
With the Jets, Saleh will have the second overall pick, but will have to figure out whether he wants to keep young quarterback Sam Darnold or draft someone else.
