One of the major stories of the offseason was Lamar Jackson’s contract extension, or lack thereof. He is eligible for an extension, but Jackson and the Ravens were unable to come to terms on a contract. Jackson will now play on his fifth-year option for $23 million.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news via Twitter on Friday.
Jackson is already one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He proved it quickly after the Ravens moved back up into the first round to take him with the 32nd overall selection of the 2019 NFL Draft. Among his accomplishments (including a Heisman Trophy), are a 2019 NFL MVP, a First Team All-Pro selection, two Pro Bowl nods and leading the league in passing touchdowns.
He also holds the records for most rushing attempts and rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season. In 2021, Jackson missed five games, but still threw for 2,882 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also rushed 767 yards and two additional scores.
