Randall Cobb Visits With Dallas Cowboys

Publish Date: March 19, 2019

Former Packers wide receiver, Randall Cobb, visited with the Dallas Cowboys yesterday to discuss a possible agreement. After Cole Beasley decided to sign with the Bills, the Cowboys now have a need at the slot receiver position. Considering Cobb’s experience and the Cowboys’ young receiving core, a deal between the two may be a great fit.

NFL Network Insider, Ian Rapoport, was the first to report the visit. The analyst appeared on NFL Network’s Up to the Minute to discuss the situation. The video appears below.

Cobb’s Career

Randall Cobb was selected in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Since then, the receiver has made a name for himself by being one of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite targets.

In his career, Cobb has caught 470 passes for a total of 5524 yards and 41 touchdowns. Averaging 11.8 yards a reception, Cobb has provided mismatches against defenders his entire career. Because of this, Cobb has proven to be a reliable slot receiver.

A problem that has arisen recently for the receiver is injuries. In 2018, Cobb was sidelined with a hamstring injury followed by a concussion late in the season. His inconsistent 2018 season is what ultimately lead to his release from the Packers organization.

Pairing With the Cowboys

Heading into the 2018 season, the Cowboys had a huge hole at the wide receiver position. Until trading for Amari Cooper, the Dallas offense was unproductive, to say the least. Now that Cole Beasley is not returning to Dallas, the team is in need of receiver depth once again.

With Cobb being 28 years of age, he has a lot of experience to bring to the table. Cobb is one of the better free agents left on the open market. If the price tag is right, it would make a lot of sense for Dallas to bring him in.

Pairing Cobb alongside Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup would not only give quarterback Dak Prescott another weapon, but fill a definite need at the receiver position.
