Late on Halloween night, the Las Vegas Raiders made a huge move that will surely shake up the rest of their season. Head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler were both fired from their positions with the team.
The NFL’s Twitter account released this graphic via Twitter when the news was announced on Tuesday night.
McDaniels may be fired, but after serving just one and a half years of a six year coaching contract, he will continue to be paid for the remainder of the deal. Meaning, he’ll receive checks from the Raiders for four more years. Las Vegas also fired Jon Gruden while he was under a massive contract, albeit for (mostly) non-football reasons.
Reportedly, linebackers coach Antonio Pierce will be elevated to the head coaching position after McDaniels’ firing. Jimmy Garoppolo, who is also being paid big money, will be benched. Rookie Aidan O’Connell will take over starting duties for the Raiders.
