The Eagles fought hard in a tough loss against the Chiefs this past Sunday. The final score of this game was 42-30. The Eagles did however manage to keep the game close throughout and made the Chiefs earn the win. The stadium was packed for this game as the Eagles faithful came to watch a good football game and celebrate the career of LeSean McCoy. The legendary Eagles running back retired as an Eagle over the weekend. This article will recap the Philadelphia Eagles week 4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs
The Eagles utilized DeVonta Smith to his full potential over the weekend. He made some huge plays for the Eagles throughout the game. Smith started his day by catching a screen pass from Jalen Hurts that went for 22 yards during the first Eagles possession. He only got better from there as he was one of the Eagles’ more reliable receivers. He ended the day with his first 100-yard receiving day of his NFL career. Smith had seven receptions for 122 yards. He did not however score a touchdown during this game as that would have been even better for the rookie out of Alabama. Hopefully, Smith can continue to produce throughout the season.
The Eagles have not rushed the ball at all over the past two weeks. Last week in Dallas Miles Sanders only had two carries and Kenneth Gainwell got much of the same. This week Sanders got seven carries but only managed to rush for 13 yards. Kenneth Gainwell had a better day rushing as he had three carries for 31 yards and one touchdown. The Eagles also used him as a receiver a lot. He mostly caught short to intermediate passes that turned into some pretty sizable gains with his quickness. The Eagles moved Gainwell around a lot. Sometimes he would be in his regular position as a running back, but he also moved to the slot to played as a receiver a lot which is great to see. Receiving is one of Gainwell’s strengths as an NFL running back. The bottom line, it’s great to see the Eagles utilize their running backs as receivers but Philadelphia needs to trust them more running the ball.
The Eagles defense gave up 42 points against the Chiefs offense. This was too much for the Eagles’ offense at the end of day, as they could not keep up. The defense let Tyreek Hill run wild on them as he had 186 yards and three touchdowns during this game. This could have been a very different game if the Eagles would have found a way to lock him down. There were also a lot of missed opportunities because of penalties.

The Eagles could have had two more sacks and an interception if the Eagles were disciplined on defense. This is frustrating as this is another aspect that could have won the game for the Eagles in the end. Philadelphia did manage to get to Patrick Mahomes once today as Javon Hargrave came in and made the sack. He has been great for the Eagles on defense this year as he seems to always find a way to the quarterback.
Even though the Eagles did not win the game, Hurts put up some impressive numbers. He passed for 387 and two touchdowns on the game. Hurts also made some pretty great plays on his feet that got the Eagles’ offense out of some trouble. He ended up having 47 rushing yards on the game. The Eagles quarterback will definitely get some wins this year if he can keep playing like that. The Chiefs were just overall a better team and still a Super Bowl contender even though they haven’t looked like it in the past few weeks.
This concludes this Philadelphia Eagles week 4 recap for their game against the Kansas City Chiefs
