The Eagles have a date with the Washington Football Team this coming weekend. This is a big game for both teams, as they are fighting for a playoff spot. This article will provide some last-minute news as we come closer to this NFC East showdown.
Jalen Hurts starting is in question
Jalen Hurts is still dealing with an ankle sprain that he suffered against the Giants in Week 12. It was reported this week that Hurts and Gardner Minshew are splitting reps going into the game against Washington. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said that the situation is still unclear, which is why Philadelphia is preparing to start both quarterbacks. Whatever happens, Philadelphia is still in a good position with both of their quarterbacks. Hurts has led the Eagles to a surprising season, as Philadelphia was picked to be one of the worst teams in the NFL at the beginning of the season. They have had success running the ball with the read option utilizing both Hurts and there the Eagles running backs. This attack has been responsible for the Eagles turnaround this season.
On the other hand, Gardner Minshew looked impressive in his start against the Jets in Week 13. He looked sharp and seemed to run the Eagles offense well. Minshew led the Eagles to seven straight scoring drives, as he led the Birds to victory. He had 242 passing yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles last game. Eagles’ fans should have confidence in both quarterbacks, as they have both shown to be able to win games.
Eagles signed CB Mac McCain to practice squad
In other news, the Eagles have signed Mac McCain to the practice squad a couple days ago. He played college ball at North Carolina A&T where he was successful. McCain won many awards during his time there, including two first team all MEAC honors. The former Aggies cornerback ended his college career with 113 tackles, eight interceptions, 22 pass breakups and 30 pass deflections in his time in college.
He signed with the Denver Broncos as a free agent, where he did not get playing time at the beginning of the regular season. The Eagles then signed him off the Broncos practice squad in preparation for the Eagles Week 3 game against Dallas. McCain ended up getting multiple snaps in that game against Dallas. He was then inactive for eight games with the Eagles after that. The Broncos then claimed him in Week 10, as the Eagles waived him. He spent a short time with the Broncos again before going back to the Eagles on November 24th. McCain was inactive for the games against the Giants and the Jets before being signed to the practice squad.
Eagles’ precautions for COVID 19
The NFL has experienced a rise in COVID 19 cases around the league recently. Philadelphia has been one of the lucky teams to not have many cases thus far. Quez Watkins has been added to the COVID 19 list recently, which is unfortunate because he gives the Eagles a boost at wide receiver. Luckily though, he is one of the few players to be added to the list for the Eagles.
Philadelphia is now taking extra precautions as it was reported that the team has been wearing masks and have reorganized meeting rooms to space out players and staff. Hopefully these precautions will protect the team from an outbreak and will keep the team healthy for the rest of the 2021 season. This concludes this edition of the Philadelphia Eagles rundown for Week 15.
