The Eagles faced the Giants over the weekend in the Meadowlands on Sunday afternoon. This was mostly a defensive game as both teams struggled to get any point production. The offense took a step back this week, as Jalen Hurts struggled to pass the ball. The running attack was one of the few positive aspects of their offense in this game. The Defense however managed to keep the Eagles in this game, as they really made a couple of key stops. The Eagles lost this game by a score of 13-7 which puts them at a record of 5-7 on the year. This article will recap the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 12 game against the New York Giants.
Rushing attack shined once again
The Eagles have done a nice job with this option attack lately with Jalen Hurts. He seems to be making the right reads whether it is him keeping the ball or give giving it to either Sanders or Scott. Hurts was the leading rusher in this game as he had 77 yards on the ground. He managed to find big holes in that Giants defense. He had a few rushes that went for ten yards or more. His longest rush went for 18 yards.
The speedy Boston Scott gave the Eagles the most production on offense as he managed to score the Eagles’ only touchdown. This was a one-yard rush by Scott, as the Eagles were at the goal line. He ended the day with 15 carries for 64 yards, as he was the Eagles’ primary back in this game. Sanders also got multiple carries, as he also ran for 64 yards. He got injured mid-way through, which took away some of his carries. He did manage to come back later on in the game though, with minimal carries.
Passing attack was horrendous
As said earlier on, Hurts did not have a great day passing the passing ball. He managed to throw three picks in this game. He threw one ball deep into double coverage and was eyeing the receiver the whole time. The other interceptions seemed to have been forced by the Giants’ pressure on the defense. Hurts ended the day under 50 percent passing, as he went 14 of 31 for 129 yards passing. He also got sacked in this game, which lost the Eagles five yards on offense.
This struggle in the passing attack should not be put all on Hurts though. The receivers really did nothing to help him, and it seemed like they were never able to get open. Their leading receiver was Kenny Gainwell, which is bizarre cause he did not get many snaps. He had 32 yards on the day. DeVonta Smith had a quiet day, which is another reason the Eagles struggled this weekend. He only got targeted four times and had 22 yards on the day. Smith is a difference-maker and should be a major player on offense for the Eagles every game.
The Eagles Defense
The Eagles’ defense really kept them in this game. They bent a lot but they did not break nor give up a lot of points. They did this by just managing to stop the Giants on third downs and forcing punts. It was nothing special as in past games where the Eagles have made explosive defensive plays for touchdowns.
Alex Singleton was the standout on defense. He had 12 total tackles with eight of them being solo. He also managed to get three tackles for a loss. Another player that stood out was Avonte Maddox. He made a couple of key pass defenses to stop the Giants in the waning moments of the game to give the Eagles a shot to win it. He ended the day with 8 eight solo tackles. Lastly, Javon Hargrave got the only sack of the afternoon. He has been reliable when it comes to that category this year. Overall, it was a pretty good day for the Eagles’ defense. They just didn’t get any help offensively. This concludes this recap of the Philadelphia Eagles Week 12 game against the Giants.
