The NFL season may be over, but there is still a lot going on in the NFL. This holds especially true for the Philadelphia Eagles. Philly has been in many reports that have linked them to picking up another quarterback. It first started with Howie Roseman being super impressed with Malik Willis after the Senior Bowl. Then the Eagles were linked to a possible trade that would send Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson to Philly. Now, Fox News is reporting that the Eagles are going to pursue Jimmy Garoppolo, who has been with San Francisco for five years. In other news the Super Bowl odds came out and it seems people are predicting the Eagles to have another uphill season in 2022. Get the latest news in this offseason edition of the Philadelphia Eagles Rundown.
Jimmy G to Philly?
To be honest it is getting harder to believe that Jalen Hurts will be the starter at quarterback for Philadelphia in 2022. A lot of big-name quarterbacks are being mentioned that are capable of taking his starting spot. The Eagles are reportedly now a team who could trade for Jimmy Garoppolo. He led the 49ers to a 10-7 regular season. Furthermore, Garoppolo led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game as they lost to the Rams. He had a solid regular season as he passed for over 3,800 yards and had 20 touchdowns.
If Garoppolo were to be traded to Philly, the Eagles chances to make the Playoffs would improve. The 49ers quarterback has a great arm and is accurate passing the ball. He had a 68.3 completion percentage in 2021. He is not a dual threat quarterback though. Garoppolo is not known for his mobility, which would give a different look to the Eagles’ offense if he did get traded. He is also a veteran that knows what it takes to succeed in the NFL. Philly could very well stick with Hurts and not take a big-time quarterback. It is interesting how this situation pans out for the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason
Eagles odds to win the Super Bowl
The odds for next year’s Super Bowl have come out and the Eagles are a long shot right now. The odds may not be as bad as last season though. The Eagles have the 20th best odds to win the Super Bowl, they are +4,000 according to SportsBookWire. So how do the Eagles increase these odds?
Improving upon the receiving core
These odds can increase by improving their receiving core. DeVonta Smith is definitely the standout and will be next season too. Quez Watkins has shown glimpses of greatness, but he just needs to get more targets. Jalen Reagor has been disappointing. He makes too many mistakes on the football field and his production is nowhere near what the Eagles wanted out of him. Philly definitely needs another wide receiver from the draft or free agency.
Figuring out the starting quarterback
The quarterback situation will have to work itself out. All signs are saying they’re trying move away from Hurts, but things can change in a heart beat. Hurts deserves another season. He led this Eagles team to an unexpected playoff berth when no one thought they would even be contenders. However, every teams goal is to win a Super Bowl and a Garoppolo or a Russel Wilson trade would greatly improve those chances faster.
Fixing holes in the defense
As for the defense, the Eagles might lose some players to free agency such Anthony Harris and Rodney McLeod. They will need to strengthen their secondary to help Darius Slay out. Fletcher Cox is also still a question mark as to whether the Eagles will trade him or keep him.
It is just the beginning of the NFL offseason, and everything is still on the table for the Eagles. We will find out soon enough how the Philadelphia Eagles will strengthen their roster during the offseason. This concludes this rundown of the current news within the Philadelphia Eagles.
