Philadelphia Eagles Rundown: July 21

Publish Date: July 21, 2022

Welcome to another edition of the Philadelphia Eagles Rundown: July 21. In this edition, we will be looking at a recent roster move as the Eagles have cut a cornerback. Furthermore, Devon Allen just competed in the World Championship of track in Eugene Oregon.  However, the performance did not turn out the way Devon Allen would have liked it to. Get everything you need to know about the Eagles and the team’s latest news here!

Craig James released from the Eagles

Eagles cornerback Craig James was released yesterday according to reports. James started his NFL career in 2018, when he signed a deal with the Minnesota Vikings in 2018 after being undrafted out of Southern Illinois.  He played three games but did not really have any numbers to show for it. He was on the Vikings for a year until he was signed to the Eagles practice squad in September 2019 where he has been since.

James did get an opportunity to play mostly on special teams on the active roster because of an injury-riddled Philadelphia secondary in 2019. He played 14 games that year and started in one. Furthermore, James recorded 15 total tackles and one pass deflection with that opportunity. In 2020, James played a little more on the active roster as he played in four games and started one. He had two total tackles in 2020. However, in 2021, he spent the whole season on the practice squad.

It was unlikely that James would make the team this year with a strong starting secondary and a lot of the young players fighting for positions on the team. James will be seeking a new opportunity in 2022 as he could possibly make a practice squad with a different team and maybe even play on the active roster depending on injuries.

Devon Allen hits a roadblock at World Championships

Allen has been competing for the United States in the World Championships in track. On Sunday, Allen was looking to earn a gold medal in the 110m hurdles. However, it did not go as Allen had planned. He got disqualified for a false start by a very small margin which was 0.001 seconds. This is unfortunate as Allen has been training for that moment for a whole year, which is surely a huge let down for him.

However, Allen still has a bright future ahead of him as he will be a rookie this year in the NFL. He signed a three-year deal with the Eagles earlier this year. He played his college career at the University of Oregon where he was successful but suffered a lot of setbacks due to injuries.  Training camp will start on July 26, which is a very short time away.  Allen will be looking to make the active roster in 2022.

This concludes this edition of the Philadelphia Eagles Rundown: July 21. Look for more Eagles news here!
