Philadelphia Eagles Rundown: July 14

Publish Date: July 14, 2022

This is another edition of the Philadelphia Eagles Rundown, which will give you all the latest Philadelphia Eagles news. This edition will go over possible concerns about Jalen Hurts during the Eagles OTAs. Furthermore, we will also be talking about the two players that have been added to Physically Unable to Perform list.

Concerns about Jalen Hurts

NFL reporter Derrick Gunn has said that there are concerns about Jalen Hurts during the Eagles OTAs, as he talked to a few sources close to the Eagles organization.  He described one activity that the Eagles did which involved a scenario of 10 plays. During this 10-play series, Hurts had three interceptions, four incompletions and three sacks. The source that Gunn talked to said that Hurts has ” a ways to go”. Hurts led to the Eagles to a 9-8 season and a playoff berth in 2021.

This is a report that Eagles fans should not be worried about at least for the moment. Training camp has not even hit and the OTAs are just a first glimpse at players before the major team functions begin such as training camp and the preseason. Most of the NFL world knows that Hurts has a lot to work on such as his mechanics and decision-making. However, judging Hurts based on OTAs isn’t prudent. If he is still struggling through training camp, then Eagles fans should start being concerned.

With that being said, the upcoming season is very important as it might determine if Hurts is the Eagles’ franchise quarterback. Judging from last season the Eagles can win with Hurts. This is even with the Eagles not having a lot of pieces of the puzzle together. The Eagles are an improved team this year and there are a lot of high expectations. They have added great players such as A.J Brown on offense and Hassan Reddick on defense. Hurts has everything he needs to succeed; now it is all about execution. If the Eagles do not execute, then the story will be different going into the next offseason.

Two Players are still not healthy going into training camp

Tyree Jackson and Brett Toth have been both added to the physically unable to perform list as training camp gets closer. Jackson is still recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered during the Week 18 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. He was a prolific quarterback for Buffalo in college and has turned into tight end since being with the Eagles. He had 22 yards and one touchdown with minimal playing time with the Eagles in 2021. However, the glimpses we did see of him showed that he has a bright future at the tight end position in the NFL.

Toth had successful knee surgery during the offseason and still has not fully recovered from it. He has been on the Eagles for two seasons now and has gotten a little bit of playing time. He played in eleven games in 2021 accumulating 53 offensive snaps. Hopefully, Toth will be healthy soon and be clear for the Eagles’ first regular season game.
