Philadelphia Eagles Preseason Preview: Week 3

The Philadelphia Eagles will travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins in their Week 3 preseason game this Saturday. Philadelphia is coming off a preseason win against the Browns which will surely give them momentum heading into this game. This article will give a full preview of the Week 3 Philadelphia Eagles preseason game.

Looking at the Eagles Opponent

The Miami Dolphins are coming off an up-and-down season in 2021. They got off to a good start against the Patriots in Week 1 and then lost seven in a row. This was partly because Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was dealing with an injury during that stretch. The Dolphins then flipped the script and won seven in a row and just missed a playoff berth. This year the Dolphins are looking for consistency. They have a good chance at that as they have improved their roster greatly with signing of Tyreek Hill and former Cowboys wide receiver Cedrick Wilson.

During the preseason Tagovailoa has only played a couple drives in the preseason and looked sharp. He completed six passes out of eight attempts and threw for 58 yards. The quarterback that has gotten the most snaps during the preseason is Skyler Thompson. Thompson has a good arm and is mobile. He played the entirety of the Dolphins first preseason game against the Buccaneers.  He also gave the Dolphins a boost late in their last preseason game against the Raiders. As for receivers in the preseason, there are two players really stick out; Erik Ezukanma and Lynn Bowden Jr. Ezukanma had 114 yards against the Raiders. He gave the Dolphins a real chance to beat the Raiders during their final drive of that game. Bolden played well in their first preseason game. He had 56 yards and one touchdown.

Eagles Players to Watch

The first player to watch in this game is Jalen Hurts, if he starts. He had a terrific drive against the Jets that ended in a touchdown. He took care of ball and made good decisions. It would do him some good to play a few drives in this game. Wide receiver Deon Cain is another player to watch. He was difference maker in the Eagles last game against the Browns. He led the team with 64 yards.

A defensive player to watch is James Jobe. He has had a good training camp and has made plays for the Eagles throughout the preseason. He had seven tackles in his last game against the Browns. Jordan Davis is another player to watch. He looked good in the Jets game but got very little playing time against the Brown. Davis could get playing time in this game to prepare for the season. In the next section of the Philadelphia Eagles game preview we look at how the Eagles can win this game against the Dolphins.

How can the Eagles win

The Eagles are known to have a running attack. They were the best in the league last year. That should be be their strategy for this game. All three backup running backs have been good over the preseason. Jason Huntley was impressive on special teams and running the ball against the Jets. He did not play much against the Browns as he had 22 yards total. Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott took most of the snaps against the Browns. They are in a battle for second string on the depth chart.

However, they cannot forget to pass. The running attack will open up passing opportunities for whoever the quarterback is in this game. It will also make the dangerous when it comes to play action . The starting receivers probably will not play the whole game, so it will be up the young wide receivers such Deon Cain and Devon Allen. Lastly, the defense needs to step up. They gave up a game winning drive to Jets with over a minute on the clock. Furthermore, they gave up a lot yardage against the Browns. Hopefully they make the right changes so that they will be better against the Dolphins.
