Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes has been cleared to play in the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills. Mahomes had to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol after being knocked out of the Divisional Round game against the Cleveland Browns.
The NFL’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Friday afternoon.

Mahomes took a strange fall in the third quarter of the Divisional Round matchup, resulting in an inability to stand up straight without help from his teammates and an unequivocally dazed look on his face. He would sit out the rest of the game as backup quarterback Chad Henne led the team to victory.
The NFL’s concussion protocol consists of many steps a player has to clear and is conducted by a neurologist independent of the NFL as to not rush a player back to the field before they are mentally and physically fit. Mahomes has reportedly cleared the protocol and will play on Sunday for a chance to return to the Super Bowl.
