The Kansas City Chiefs’ starting left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. is threatening to hold out during training camp. Brown has recently hired a new agent and has demanded top dollar for his position. If Orlando Brown were to hold out it would force Kansas City to look for suitable replacements.
Jeff Chadiha broke this news on NFL Network and stated that the Chiefs have tried to come to a long-term agreement with Brown but are refusing to pay him as if he is the best at his position. He denied the initial offer given by Kansas City and threatened to hold out. He also stated that front office personnel in Kansas City have become unhappy with Brown as “he is not the player they traded for” and has become immature.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Chiefs did not want to pay top dollar for Brown as they let some big names go this offseason such as Tyreek Hill and Tryann Mathieu. If Kansas City was going to pay one of their players top dollar it would have gone to one of those two players, not Brown who has seemingly regressed since arriving in Kansas City.
The obvious replacement if Brown were to hold out would be Lucas Niang. Niang plays right tackle, but would be the best option at the moment. Although Niang suffered an injury in week 17 last season and will possibly miss training camp and more. Other tackles on the roster are Geron Christian Sr. and Prince Tega Wanogho.
