The offseason has officially begun for the Miami Dolphins after posting a 9-8 record in the 2021 season. There are many things that the Dolphins need to accomplish over this offseason. One is to find a new head coach after the shocking firing of Brian Flores. Another issue though is that there are some players that are hitting free agency that the Dolphins need to think about re- signing. These are some of the notable Dolphins’ players that are set to become free agents on March 16th, 2022.
This is an absolute no-brainer for the Miami Dolphins. Gesicki has become a consistent tight end for the Dolphins and knows how to make big plays. He is not a typical tight end though; he is more of receiver than anything. The Dolphins have been known to use him in the slot and as a wide out, where he has had success. He is dangerous because Gesicki has some speed for a tight end but combined with that, he is big and hard to bring down. Gesicki also has great hands and is consistent at making catches when he thrown too.
He broke out in the 2019 season where he had over 500 yards receiving and five touchdowns. His stats have only gone up from that year. In 2020, he had 703 yards and six touchdowns. This past year was his best season in terms of yardage, but his touchdowns have dwindled. He had 780 receiving in 2021 and two touchdowns. He finished the season ranked number eight among tight ends with the most receiving yards. He is also the second leading pass catcher on the Dolphins behind rookie stand out Jaylen Waddle.
It is yet to be seen if a deal will get done between him and the Dolphins, but he should be near the top of Miami’s’ list of players to Re-sign
Another player the Dolphins need to work at re-signing is Emmanuel Ogbah. He was one of the best defensive players in 2021. He has great versatility and is strong. He can also find ways to get to the quarterback and make game-changing plays.

Ogbah ranked in the top 20 in sacks this year with nine. He also ranks tops on the Dolphins defense when it comes to sacks. Ogbah also had 41 total tackles in the 2021 season. These stats are nothing new for Ogbah. He had the same type of production in 2020, where he also had nine sacks and 42 total tackles. Another area that Ogbah is good at is knowing when to put his hand up to deflect passes at the line of scrimmage. He had 12 pass deflections this year, which is the best in the NFL.
Ogbah is going to be an expensive player to re-sign, but it will be totally worth it as he is one of the big factors as to why the Dolphins defense was so good in the second half of the season.
Brissett is a bit of a conundrum for the Dolphins. He started five games for Miami this year, but did not win a game and his stats are not spectacular. He had 1,283 passing yards on the year, five touchdowns, and four interceptions. He can put up great passing numbers in terms of yardage, but he could not produce the Dolphins a lot of points otherwise. He has great size for a quarterback as he is 6’4, which makes it easy for him see receivers down field.
Furthermore, Brissett is more of a pocket passer. He does not have a lot of mobility, which makes it hard for him to avoid defenders when harassed in the pocket. He was sacked 19 times this year, which is a lot considering he only started five games. Brissett is not notable because of his numbers and production. He is notable because he is a veteran presence on this Dolphins team and can mentor young quarterbacks. Furthermore, the Dolphins could possibly draft a quarterback in the draft as a potential replacement for Tagovailoa. This would depend on how Tagovailoa starts the season in 2022.
But for now, it is not time to call it quits on the former 1st round pick out of Alabama and he will more likely be the starter at the beginning of 2022 season. Time will tell what the Dolphins will do with Jacoby Brissett.
