Over the past two seasons, speculation has erupted as to who will be the Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback. The backup quarterback Nick Foles has put up quite an argument as to why he should be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Leading his team to its first Super Bowl win in franchise history, Foles won the hearts of many in the city of Philadelphia. But, the Eagles have strongly suggested that the 2016 first round draft pick, Carson Wentz, is their starter for 2019. With this in mind, Nick Foles’ talents may be shown elsewhere come September.
Foles Set For Free Agency
The Eagles recently picked up Nick Foles’ $20 million 2019 option. NFL Network’s NFL analyst Ian Rapoport reported that Foles has paid $2 million to buy out the final year of his contract. Unless the Eagles decide to franchise tag Foles, the quarterback will be testing the free agent market.
Sources: #Eagles QB Nick Foles is, in fact, buying back his freedom for $2M, voiding the new and final year of his contract. Now, he’s a free agent… unless Philly hits him with the roughly $25M franchise tag.

Potential Landing Spots
Foles has proven to be a reliable signal caller in both the regular season and the playoffs. With a few teams lacking at the quarterback position, Foles may be a number one free agent target in 2019. Here are four potential landing spots for Nick Foles:
4. Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos signed quarterback Case Keenum to a two year, $36 million dollar deal last offseason. After a disappointing 6-10 season, John Elway may be reconsidering his decision. Looking to the future, Keenum does not look like the answer at the quarterback position.
Denver’s front office has expressed their interest in drafting a quarterback in 2019. With Foles hitting free agency, the team may not have to do so. It would not be surprising to see Elway’s interest in a veteran Super Bowl-winning quarterback like Foles.
3. Washington Redskins
Since Alex Smith’s devastating leg injury, the Washington Redskins quarterback position has been in shambles. Cycling through quarterbacks Colt McCoy, Mark Sanchez and Josh Johnson, it is evident that the team is in need of a signal-caller.
With no expected return date for Smith, his future with the team is still unclear. Foles would be a viable option to take Smith’s place under center in 2019.
2. Miami Dolphins
Ryan Tannehill has been with the Miami Dolphins for six seasons and has little to show for it. Since being drafted in the first round of 2012 by the Dolphins, the team has had one playoff game appearance; a game that Tannehill did not start in. Due to this type of under production, the Dolphins are expected to part ways with Tannehill this off-season.
Although a lot of Foles’ experience has been as a back-up, he still has done far more with his career than Tannehill. With a 4-2 playoff record and a Super Bowl win under his belt, Foles may be the answer for Miami.
1. Jacksonville Jaguars
One year after competing in the 2018 AFC championship game, the Jacksonville Jaguars season took a turn for the worst. Finishing last in AFC South with a 5-11 record, the team will be looking to get back on track this offseason. With quarterback Blake Bortles finishing the 2018 season with a passer rating of 79.8, it seems the team’s need lies under center.
Former Eagles quarterback coach John DeFilippo has recently been hired as the Jaguars offensive coordinator. With a coach in the organization that is aware of Foles’ talents, it would not be surprising if the Jaguars pursued the quarterback. Foles would be a great addition to team being a veteran, as the Jaguars offense has a young core looking for experience.
