The NFL season is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are NFL Week 9 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)
Last week: 7-7
Season: 54-60-6
Jacksonville Jaguars (-9.5) at Baltimore Ravens
Jacksonville will win this game with all of the quarterback issues for Baltimore. The Ravens can have a solid defensive game though and keep it relatively low-scoring. With a week to prep a new quarterback, the Ravens could see a little bit better offense than against the Bills.
Pick: Ravens
Cincinnati Bengals (-3) at Atlanta Falcons (Game in Madrid, Spain)
Cincinnati is starting games off slow, then playing very well in the second half. If they can start the game well early, they can cover a field-goal spread. Atlanta is coming off a miserable performance in the rain against the Bucs, which could be tough to recover from.
Pick: Bengals
Los Angeles Rams (-5.5) at Washington Commanders
The Rams have won two straight games by double digits as they are starting to find their footing. They are going across the country for an early game, but they should be able to limit the Commanders, who have just two wins this season.
Pick: Rams
New York Giants (-3) at Philadelphia Eagles
The Giants come off the bye to play the Eagles, who are struggling with injuries and aren’t playing good football on either side of the ball. With a real path to winning the NFC East, the Giants will be focused and ready to defeat the Eagles on the road.
Pick: Giants
Dallas Cowboys (-5.5) at Indianapolis Colts
Dallas isn’t playing up to their potential, but can take advantage of a Colts’ team that is trading away its best players. The Cowboys can focus on stopping Jonathan Taylor and do enough to cover on the road.
Pick: Cowboys
Detroit Lions (-6.5) at Miami Dolphins
While the Dolphins have battled tough over the last few weeks, the Lions have a high-powered offense that they won’t be able to keep up with. The Dolphins score just 16.7 points per game and the Lions will likely score close to 30 in this game.
Pick: Lions
Cleveland Browns at New Orleans Saints (-2.5)
Cleveland’s offense is sputtering, as they have scored over 20 points just once in the last four games. The Saints are should be able to outscore the Browns at home, even with a struggling defense, as they are coming off a bye.
Pick: Saints
Denver Broncos (-3) at Carolina Panthers
Denver continues to win games despite the poor quarterback play they are getting. They have to travel across the country to play the Panthers, making things tougher. Carolina had extra time to prepare and if Bryce Young can play like he did earlier this season, the Panthers can win outright.
Pick: Panthers
New York Jets at Kansas City Chiefs (-9.5)
The Jets defense has given up plenty of points over the last three weeks and Patrick Mahomes won’t help that. Kansas City is coming off a loss and will be prepared to get things back on track.
Pick: Chiefs
Houston Texans (-4.5) at Los Angeles Chargers
Houston is coming off a bye for this game and get to play the winless Chargers. While the Texans’ defense hasn’t played up to expectations, this can be a game to get things right, especially with the extra time to prepare for this game.
Pick: Texans
Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks (-11.5)
Seattle lost on Monday Night Football to Chicago and now has a short week to prepare for the Cardinals. The Cardinals inserted Gardner Minshew in at quarterback and he was able to lead them to a comeback win over the Cowboys. Minshew may have one more good game before defenses adjust, so the Seahawks can win, but the Cardinals can keep it close.
Pick: Cardinals
Green Bay Packers at New England Patriots (-3)
Green Bay played on Thursday in Week 8, giving them extra time to prepare for this game. Their defense is playing better than expected without Micah Parsons and they could cause some issues for a banged-up Patriots offense.
Pick: Packers
Las Vegas Raiders at San Francisco 49ers (-9.5)
The 49ers had a bye in Week 8, so they will be fresher against the Raiders. Las Vegas is giving up too many points on defense to keep this one close, as the 49ers will be able to limit them.
Pick: 49ers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Chicago Bears (-6.5)
Tampa Bay is playing good defense and getting the job done offensively, no matter the conditions. They will be taking the Bears on after they played on Monday Night Football. The Bears may win, but the Bucs should be able to keep it close.
Pick: Buccaneers
Buffalo Bills (-3) at Minnesota Vikings
Buffalo’s defense gives up some points, but the Vikings may not be able to take advantage of that. They score just 20 points per game and even against a good defense, Josh Allen can carry the offense, as they have three-straight 30-point games.
Pick: Bills
