NFL Week 9 Picks Against the Spread

Publish Date: October 29, 2024

NFL Week 9 is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 9 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)

Last Week: 6-10

Season: 67-53-3

Thursday Night Football

Houston Texans at New York Jets (-1.5)

The Jets are a mess right now after losing to the Patriots. They have the home game in this one, but the Texans just keep finding ways to win games. Their defense should create pressure on Aaron Rodgers.

Pick: Texans

Sunday Afternoon

Washington Commanders (-3.5) at New York Giants

The Giants are coming off of a short week. Washington can take advantage of that and are riding high after their last-second win over the Bears. With Jayden Daniels getting healthier, the Commanders should be able to win and cover on the road.

Pick: Commanders

Los Angeles Chargers (-1.5) at Cleveland Browns

Jameis Winston brought another element to the Browns in his first start. After inserting new quarterbacks into the lineup, the team usually gets a temporary boost. The Chargers should be able to limit the Browns’ offense to win the game.

Pick: Chargers

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills (-6.5)

Miami got Tua Tagovailoa back at quarterback last week, but things still seemed off. Buffalo is on fire right now and are starting to get contributions from several playmakers now.

Pick: Bills

Dallas Cowboys at Atlanta Falcons (-2.5)

The Cowboys didn’t look great at San Francisco, but they should be able to bounce back. Atlanta has some hesitancy to push the ball downfield at times, so Dallas could win a shootout.

Pick: Cowboys

New Orleans Saints (-7) at Carolina Panthers

The Saints have some question marks at quarterback, but they have a better roster than the Panthers. Carolina has struggled no matter who has been in this season.

Pick: Saints

New England Patriots at Tennessee Titans (-3)

Jacoby Brissett filled in when Drake Maye left the Patriots’ game against the Jets. Going on the road and getting a win could be tough, especially after the Patriots traded Josh Uche this week. If the Titans can limit turnovers, they can win and cover.

Pick: Titans

Las Vegas Raiders at Cincinnati Bengals (-7.5)

Las Vegas played the Chiefs tough, but that was a divisional opponent. Cincinnati let the game slip away to the Eagles in week 8, as they really pulled away in the second half. The Bengals’ offense is efficient and should be able to win by more than a touchdown.

Pick: Bengals

Denver Broncos at Baltimore Ravens (-9.5)

The Ravens’ defense has been sporadic this year. Denver should be able to keep the game low-scoring, even if Baltimore has a good defensive game. Bo Nix has looked better than expected and while winning is a bit to predict, keeping the margin to single digits should happen.

Pick: Broncos

Sunday Evening

Chicago Bears at Arizona Cardinals (-1.5)

The Bears’ defense played well against the Commanders in week 8, but their offense was not called well. They insisted on passing the ball a lot rather than trusting the run. Arizona is leading the NFC West and if the Bears won’t take what the Cardinals give them, Kyler Murray can lead the team to victory.

Pick: Cardinals

Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles (-7)

Philadelphia is 3-0 since their bye week. Their offense really seemed to get going against the Bengals, especially now that all their playmakers are healthy. Jacksonville has their offense working better, but the Eagles’ defense is also progressing.

Pick: Eagles

Detroit Lions (-3.5) at Green Bay Packers

Jordan Love’s health is something to watch this week, but Malik Willis has filled in well. Detroit’s offense has been impressive because of their way to beat teams in different ways. They can go on the road and win.

Pick: Lions

Los Angeles Rams (-1.5) at Seattle Seahawks

The Rams are healthier now, but still have holes on their roster, specifically on the defensive side of the ball. Seattle didn’t look good against the Bills in week 8, but the Rams’ defense will be a little easier to move the ball on.

Pick: Seahawks

Sunday Night Football

Indianapolis Colts at Minnesota Vikings (-5.5)

Anthony Richardson has played poorly this season. The Vikings can confuse him with their complex defense to help them win by at least a touchdown.

Pick: Vikings

Monday Night Football

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Kansas City Chiefs (-9.5)

The Chiefs should win this game, but they haven’t blown teams out this season. Their offense has been limited. Kansas City has two games decided by two possessions this season. One was by 10 points to the 49ers and the other was a 13-point win over the Saints. The Bucs are banged up, but could keep the game to single digits.

Pick: Buccaneers
