NFL Week 8 Picks Against the Spread

Publish Date: October 24, 2023

NFL Week 8 is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 8 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)

Last Week: 5-8

Season: 64-38-4

Thursday Night Football

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Buffalo Bills (-8.5)

Buffalo has been struggling, but they get to play this game at home. A prime-time game will make it a tough environment and a game against the Buccaneers gives Buffalo a chance to get right. Tampa Bay is currently struggling to put up points, which will be even tougher against the Bills.

Pick: Bills

Sunday Afternoon

Houston Texans (-3) at Carolina Panthers

In the battle of the first two quarterbacks selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Texans will take on the Panthers. Both teams have had offensive line issues, but C.J. Stroud has proven to handle it better. Houston will pressure Bryce Young too much for Carolina to win.

Pick: Texans

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins (-9.5)

While the Patriots seemed to get things back on track against the Bills, they still have plenty of offensive issues. Miami will want to bounce back after losing to Philadelphia in week 7. Expect them to be focused in this game to get back on track.

Pick: Dolphins

New York Jets (-3) at New York Giants

Both of these teams have quarterback issues, but the Jets have the better defense. That defense is enough to help them cover in this “away game”.

Pick: Jets

Los Angeles Rams at Dallas Cowboys (-6.5)

The Cowboys are coming off of a bye and should win, but they have issues that need to be figured out. Their red zone offense and really offense in general could run a lot more smoothly. Sean McVay has the Rams playing well enough that this should be a close game.

Pick: Rams

New Orleans Saints at Indianapolis Colts (-1)

On paper, the Saints should be able to go into Indianapolis and get the win. The problem is that Derek Carr and the offense aren’t playing up to their potential. Indianapolis will battle them tough and can get the win if the Saints don’t show improvement.

Pick: Colts

Minnesota Vikings (-1) at Green Bay Packers

The Vikings have rebounded well after starting off the season slow. Their defense has stepped up and they are winning games without Justin Jefferson. On the other side, Green Bay is struggling and the Vikings can take advantage.

Pick: Vikings

Atlanta Falcons (-2.5) at Tennessee Titans

Two teams who love to run the football will match up in week 8. The Falcons have been better than expected, while the Titans have been worse. Look for the Titans to try and establish Derrick Henry and get the win at home.

Pick: Titans

Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers

Jacksonville is starting to find their stride after winning four straight games. They played last Thursday, so they also had extra time to prepare for this game. That could be the difference.

Pick: Jaguars

Philadelphia Eagles (-6.5) at Washington Commanders

The Eagles have had some trouble with the Commanders, but their pass rush will make things too tough for Sam Howell to keep this one close.

Pick: Eagles.

Sunday Evening

Cleveland Browns at Seattle Seahawks (-3)

Cleveland picked up a win at Indianapolis in week 7, but it was ugly. Deshaun Watson is not playing well, as backup P.J. Walker outplayed him. Seattle has to continue to win games to possibly take first place in the NFC West.

Pick: Seahawks

Kansas City Chiefs (-7.5) at Denver Broncos

Division games are always tricky, but the Broncos are a mess still. The Chiefs should be able to win by more than a touchdown like they did a couple of weeks ago.

Pick: Chiefs

Cincinnati Bengals at San Francisco 49ers (-5.5)

San Francisco is on a short week and have been dealing with injuries to Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams and Christian McCaffrey. Cincinnati on the other hand, is coming off a bye and is relatively healthy. The 49ers may win, but the Bengals should be able to keep things close.

Pick: Bengals

Baltimore Ravens (-8.5) at Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals have won one game, lost another by three and a final home game by 14 this season. More often than not, they put up a good fight at home. The Ravens will win, but it might be by just a touchdown.

Pick: Cardinals

Sunday Night Football

Chicago Bears at Los Angeles Chargers (-8.5)

The Bears won with Tyson Bagent at quarterback, but will have a tougher test this week. Either Justin Fields will play injured, or Bagent will have to sustain that success with a week of tape out on him. The Chargers are desperate for a win and should cover in this game.

Pick: Chargers

Monday Night Football

Las Vegas Raiders at Detroit Lions (-7.5)

Las Vegas has quarterback issues, as Jimmy Garoppolo is injured. Even if he plays, he has turned over the ball too much this season. Detroit will be hyped for a prime time game and should win and cover.

Pick: Lions
