NFL Week 5 is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 5 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)
Last Week: 9-6-1
Season: 39-22-3
Thursday Night Football
Chicago Bears at Washington Commanders (-5.5)
The Commanders will likely win this game, but by how much? If Justin Fields can use his legs, the Bears should be able to keep it within the spread.
Pick: Bears
Sunday Morning
Jacksonville Jaguars at Buffalo Bills (-5.5) (Game in London, England)
Buffalo is rolling on all cylinders now. Even playing in London, they should be able to cover while the Jaguars find their footing this season.
Pick: Bills
Sunday Afternoon
Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts (-1)
The Titans have had trouble moving the ball. Indianapolis has had plenty of explosive plays from rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson. They should be able to defend their home turf.
Pick: Colts
Houston Texans at Atlanta Falcons (-2)
Houston has played incredibly with a lot of injuries on the offensive line. It will get harder and harder to cover that up as the season goes on. The Falcons can control the clock and protect their homefield.
Pick: Falcons
Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions (-9)
The Panthers have had bad offensive line play, while the Lions have been rushing the passer well. It is weird picking the Lions to cover a nine-point spread, but they have the ability to do so.
Pick: Lions
Baltimore Ravens (-3.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers don’t know if Kenny Pickett will play yet Sunday, but if he does, he won’t be 100 percent. Baltimore can bring pressure and make things tough for the Steelers. The Ravens can win and cover on the road.
Pick: Ravens
New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots (-1)
New England has had trouble on offense and Mac Jones looks like he isn’t the answer. With how poorly he is playing right now, the Saints can go on the road and win.
Pick: Saints
New York Giants at Miami Dolphins (-11)
The Giants are coming off a short week where they had a really bad Monday Night Football experience. Miami lost last week, but the offense will get back on track this week.
Pick: Dolphins
Sunday Evening
Philadelphia Eagles (-4) at Los Angeles Rams
Philadelphia has had trouble covering as of late, but the Rams will have trouble blocking their front. The Eagles can cover on the road.
Pick: Eagles
Cincinnati Bengals (-3) at Arizona Cardinals
Cincinnati has not looked good. Arizona was thought to be tanking. The Bengals are the pick, as this is the last chance to turn their season around.
Pick: Bengals
New York Jets at Denver Broncos (-2)
There will be plenty of talk about offseason comments in this game. The Jets have Zach Wilson playing better and the defense is still great.
Pick: Jets
Kansas City Chiefs (-5) at Minnesota Vikings
While the Chiefs didn’t cover last week, the Vikings have a worse defense. Kansas City can win big on the road.
Pick: Chiefs
Sunday Night Football
Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers (-3.5)
One of the best matchups of the season is going to go in favor of the 49ers. They have a balanced team and have homefield advantage in this one, which should help them win and cover.
Pick: 49ers
Monday Night Football
Green Bay Packers (-1.5) at Las Vegas Raiders
The Packers lost a tough one at home to the Lions last Thursday. It will be tough for them to regroup and win on the road even with extra time.
Pick: Raiders
