NFL Week 5 Picks Against the Spread

Publish Date: October 4, 2022

NFL Week 5 is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 5 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)

Last Week: 9-5-2, Season: 30-32-2

Thursday Night Football

Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos (-3)

Not only is Shaq Leonard out for this game, but the Colts will also have a banged-up Jonathan Taylor, if he plays. With those two out, it will be tough to reach their potential, especially after struggling out of the gate. The Broncos haven’t looked good either, but everything is looking like this game will go in their favor.

Pick: Broncos

Sunday Morning

New York Giants vs. Green Bay Packers (-7) (Game in London, England)

The Giants have played well so far under Brian Daboll, but they now have quarterback injuries to worry about. Daniel Jones has a sprained ankle, while Tyrod Taylor has a concussion. That leaves Davis Webb potentially getting the start. Green Bay has not looked great, but should be able to outduel the Giants with their injuries.

Pick: Packers

Sunday Afternoon

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-9)

Tampa Bay has not looked good this season. They will likely get back on track with a win against the Falcons, but the Falcons have been playing tough despite their rebuild. Atlanta should keep this close on the road.

Pick: Falcons

Tennessee Titans (-2.5) at Washington Commanders

Washington’s defense and their turnover issues on offense will rear its head in this game. Derrick Henry will help the Titans run the ball well and control the clock for a road victory.

Pick: Titans

Seattle Seahawks at New Orleans Saints (-6)

New Orleans is favored by a touchdown, despite having plenty of injury issues and returning from London this week. Geno Smith has been playing well for the Seahawks and they could even win this game outright.

Pick: Seahawks

Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings (-7)

The Bears run the ball well, but they can’t pass to keep up with the Vikings’ offense in this game.

Pick: Vikings

Detroit Lions at New England Patriots (-3)

Bailey Zappe got his first action as an NFL quarterback for the Patriots when both Mac Jones and Brian Hoyer were out of the game with injuries. The Patriots wouldn’t let him throw as much as they will need to in order to keep up with the Lions, who have the highest scoring offense in the NFL. New England can win the game, but the Lions’ offense will keep it close.

Pick: Lions

Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars (-7.5)

Houston is the only winless team in the NFL. Jacksonville has played really well this season and even had the lead on the Eagles after a good start. They should be able to win and cover at home.

Pick: Jaguars

Miami Dolphins (-3) at New York Jets

The Dolphins will have Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback, but their playmakers and defense should help them get a win on the road over the Jets.

Pick: Dolphins

Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills (-14)

The Bills are the much better team, but this is also the biggest line of the NFL season so far. Pittsburgh is changing it up and going with Kenny Pickett, but they will likely try to keep the score of this game low, limiting the chances of the Bills covering.

Pick: Steelers

Los Angeles Chargers (-3) at Cleveland Browns

Cleveland has had some playcalling issues this season, both offensively and defensively. The Chargers have lost some players due to injury, but Justin Herbert‘s play should help them win and cover.

Pick: Chargers

Sunday Evening

San Francisco 49ers (-4.5) at Carolina Panthers

The 49ers just got a big win on Monday Night Football and will be on a short week. They are still way more talented than the Panthers, who are a mess right now.

Pick: 49ers

Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Rams (-4)

The Rams have looked like a shell of themselves after winning the Super Bowl last season. Dallas has weathered the storm with Dak Prescott out, mainly due to their defense, which has been elite. The Cowboys can keep this game close and may even win it on the road, with or without Prescott.

Pick: Cowboys

Philadelphia Eagles (-5.5) at Arizona Cardinals

Arizona looks like they have some real problems on their hands. The frustration is blowing over to the sidelines and it looks like the team isn’t capable of beating good teams. The Eagles more than qualify as a good team and should win and cover on the road.

Pick: Eagles

Sunday Night Football

Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens (-3)

Cincinnati seems like they have gotten things back on track and had a mini-bye leading up to this game. Baltimore’s offense has looked good, besides the second half against the Bills. They will get things going and should be able to defend their home turf.

Pick: Ravens

Monday Night Football

Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs (-7)

Kansas City looked really good against the Bucs in week 4. They have found their stride without Tyreek Hill, as they made a good defense look bad. Las Vegas still hasn’t played their best football yet this season, and because of that, the smart pick is for the Chiefs to win and cover.

Pick: Chiefs
