NFL Week 3 is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 3 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)
Last Week: 17-12-3
Thursday Night Football
New England Patriots at New York Jets (-6.5)
New England has played tough the first two weeks, but the lack of talent on the roster will start to show up as weeks go on. The Jets defense will be stout and the Patriots will struggle to move the ball. Aaron Rodgers can do enough to cover.
Pick: Jets
Sunday Afternoon
Chicago Bears at Indianapolis Colts (-2)
Indianapolis has given up almost 500 rushing yards already this season. The Bears have struggled offensively, but their defense can play well and if they can get D’Andre Swift going, they can win on the road.
Pick: Bears
New York Giants at Cleveland Browns (-6)
Cleveland is 1-1 and picked up a big win over the Jags in week 2. Their defense is stout, but their offense may be incapable of blowing other teams out, even if the Giants are struggling.
Pick: Giants
Green Bay Packers at Tennessee Titans (-3)
Tennessee is getting too many critical errors from their quarterback, Will Levis, which limits what their offense can do. Matt LaFleur unleashed a masterful gameplan without Jordan Love, so if he can’t go again, the Packers should be able to move the ball and possibly pick up the win.
Pick: Packers
Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints (-1.5)
The Eagles will be on a short week after suffering a brutal loss to the Falcons. Philadelphia’s offense is still finding their way. New Orleans showed how good their offense can be in the first two weeks under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
Pick: Saints
Los Angeles Chargers at Pittsburgh Steelers (-2)
Jim Harbaugh has the Chargers 2-0. They have players stepping up like Quentin Johnston and their offensive line is giving Justin Herbert time to throw. The Steelers will have Justin Fields at quarterback, limiting their offense. Herbert and company can outscore the Steelers.
Pick: Chargers
Houston Texans (-2.5) at Minnesota Vikings
Houston is 2-0 after getting hard-fought wins over the Bears and Colts. The Vikings have surprised everyone going 2-0 behind good play from their defense and Sam Darnold. After a big win against the 49ers, it will be hard to match that effort against the Texans.
Pick: Texans
Denver Broncos at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6.5)
Bo Nix is turning the ball over too much for the Broncos. Baker Mayfield is on fire for the Buccaneers so they should be able to win and cover at home.
Pick: Buccaneers
Carolina Panthers at Las Vegas Raiders (-5.5)
Carolina benched Bryce Young, which gives them a little more life for this week. The Raiders are coming off an upset against the Ravens on the road. Las Vegas may win at home, but with the boost from starting a new quarterback, the Panthers could keep it close.
Pick: Panthers
Sunday Evening
Miami Dolphins at Seattle Seahawks (-5)
The Dolphins will likely be starting Skylar Thompson this week. He has a few years in the system and even played in the playoffs for the Dolphins a couple of years ago. Thompson can play well enough to keep it close on the road, as the Seahawks have played two one-possession games so far this year.
Pick: Dolphins
Detroit Lions (-3) at Arizona Cardinals
Arizona notched a big win against the Rams, while the Lions will want to bounce back from a loss to the Buccaneers in week 3. Detroit has enough offensive firepower to take advantage of Arizona’s defense.
Pick: Lions
San Francisco 49ers (-7.5) at Los Angeles Rams
Both of these teams have injuries piling up early. The Rams will be more hurt by all of their injuries, which was shown against the Cardinals in week 3. San Francisco can win and cover on the road.
Pick: 49ers
Baltimore Ravens (-1) at Dallas Cowboys
In week 2, the Cowboys showed how vulnerable their run defense was against the Saints. Baltimore may be coming off a loss, but they should be able to find success on the ground enough to win on the road.
Pick: Ravens
Sunday Night Football
Kansas City Chiefs (-4.5) at Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta will be on a short week against the Chiefs, which isn’t a great recipe for another win. Kansas City struggled against the Bengals, but those games are always close. Even with Isiah Pacheco out, the Chiefs can cover.
Pick: Chiefs
Monday Night Football
Jacksonville Jaguars at Buffalo Bills (-5.5)
Jacksonville is 0-2 after playing teams they could’ve defeated. Buffalo has a lot of new faces contributing this season on both sides of the ball, but they have handled it well and seem to be on the right track.
Pick: Bills
Washington Commanders at Cincinnati Bengals (-8)
The Bengals are 0-2, but seemed to figure things out more in a close loss to the Chiefs in week 2. Cincinnati can cover the spread against the Commanders, as defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo usually has good gameplans for scrambling quarterbacks.
Pick: Bengals
