Week 1 definitely had some surprises and major debuts. From Joe Burrow barely losing his first game to the Falcons airing it out and still losing, it seems like Week 2 will also have some interesting things to watch. Here is a look at a couple of storylines to watch, along with some fantasy football advice and betting projections.
Joe Burrow vs. Cleveland
It is safe to say that the Bengals were ready to head to overtime and try to win Joe Burrow’s first game. Unfortunately, Randy Bullock injured his calf when striking the ball thus causing him to miss. Now the Bengals are onto Cleveland who had, well they had an awful time against a very strong Ravens team. Will this be the first Joe Burrow victory in the NFL? Fans won’t have to wait long to find out considering it’s on Thursday night football.
When looking at players fantasy-wise this could be an interesting game. Fans should read more about the fantasy betting market before diving too deep into a game like this one. That said look for AJ Green, Joe Mixon, Jarvis Landry and Kareem Hunt to have solid days. It was clear in week 1 that the Bengals want to give Green and Mixon the ball as much as possible and against an less than stellar defense, they should get plenty of looks.
On the other side of the ball, Landry is still a targeting machine. He may not have the major plays but in PPR situations he is a go to. Picking Hunt over Chubb is also because the Bengals defense was stout against the run last week. If Eckler can’t get going then Chubb likely won’t either. Look for Hunt to be in to try and catch passes out of the backfield.
Patriots vs. Seahawks
This is another great matchup but one that is not completely focused on the Quarterbacks. When looking at both of these teams, they have great defenses that will absolutely make an impact on this game. It will be important to keep that in mind when watching this game as it could be a low scoring affair.
For the Patriots, they will be challenged for the first time during the Cam Newton era in New England. Last week Newton was able to throw minimally and they made it clear that he was free to run the ball as much as he wanted. The Seahawks will likely punish him for running so much so look for him to try and air it out more in this game. That means that fantasy players will want to watch for Julian Edelman along with N’Keal Harry. Sony Michel on the other hand might be worth a spot on the bench for now.
As for the Seahawks, they were able to let Wilson dissect the Falcons defense. He did enough to get them the win but will be faced with a tougher defense in New England. He will likely have to run a bit more if the openings are there. Fantasy wise DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Greg Olsen are all worth looking at. As well as obviously Russell Wilson.
