The NFL season is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are NFL week 2 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)
Last week: 6-10
Season: 6-10
Detroit Lions at Buffalo Bills (-4.5)
The Bills put up a lot of points against a good Texans’ defense in Week 1. They will likely be able to do that again, but their defense gives up a lot of points. Buffalo can outscore the Lions at home, but Detroit can score enough to keep it close.
Pick: Lions
Carolina Panthers (-1) at Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta has quarterback injury issues and Cooper Rush started in Week 1. Carolina gave up a lot of points against the Bears, but this can be a game for them to get right.
Pick: Panthers
Pittsburgh Steelers at New England Patriots (-4.5)
New England had extra time to prepare for the Steelers after they dropped their opener to Seattle. The Patriots can limit Pittsburgh’s offense, which scored just 20 points (six of which were on a pick-six), and should be able to score, especially against a defense missing one of their starting corners, Joey Porter Jr.
Pick: Patriots
Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears (-5.5)
Despite Kyler Murray getting injured, Minnesota was able to defeat Green Bay. Chicago has plenty to clean up on defense, but their offense played flawlessly. They could keep that up, even against a Brian Flores defense, and cover at home.
Pick: Bears
Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans (-1.5)
Houston’s defense gave up 36 points in Week 1 and now play another good offense in Cincinnati. The Texans have to be encouraged by the offensive production in their opener and the defense should be able to bounce back in their second game.
Pick: Texans
New Orleans Saints at Baltimore Ravens (-8.5)
The Saints didn’t look good in the first half against the Lions and then put things together in the second half. They may not be able to win the games against the Ravens on the road, but if Tyler Shough plays like he did at the end of Week 1, the Saints can keep it within a touchdown.
Pick: Saints
Cleveland Browns at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-8.5)
Cleveland looked miserable in their first game against the Jaguars. Tampa Bay had a tough game on the road against the Bengals in their opener, but should be able to come home and take advantage of bad quarterback play.
Pick: Buccaneers
Philadelphia Eagles (-7) at Tennessee Titans
The Eagles are 1-0, but have plenty to clean up on the offensive line. They should be able to correct some things and their defense can smother the Titans’ offense to help them cover on the road.
Pick: Eagles
Green Bay Packers (-3.5) at New York Jets
The Jets played better than expected in Week 1, while the Packers blew their lead against the Vikings. Green Bay should have enough on offense to outscore the Jets.
Pick: Packers
Jacksonville Jaguars at Denver Broncos (-2.5)
Bo Nix looked awful in the season-opener and Denver’s offense may have some issues with a new play-caller. The Jaguars did what they were supposed to do in Week 1 and Trevor Lawrence is thriving in the offense.
Pick: Jaguars
Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers (-6.5)
The Chargers were stunned by the Cardinals in the season-opener. This is the perfect chance to get things back on track, as the Raiders won their game against the Dolphins but are still a team that is growing.
Pick: Chargers
Washington Commanders at Dallas Cowboys (-3.5)
Dallas played terribly in Week 1 and now are desperate for a win. Washington’s defense still has plenty of holes and covering the talented Dallas receivers will likely be too much.
Pick: Cowboys
Miami Dolphins at San Francisco 49ers (-12.5)
The Dolphins struggled against the Raiders and it won’t get any easier against the 49ers. San Francisco will be coming back from Australia, but they looked good in the season opener.
Pick: 49ers
Seattle Seahawks (-4.5) at Arizona Cardinals
Seattle had extra time to prepare for this game after playing last week’s game on Wednesday. They should be able to run the ball well and the defense can create problems for an offense led by Jacoby Brissett.
Pick: Seahawks
Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5)
The Chiefs greatly benefitted from Kenneth Walker III’s presence in Week 1. With a somewhat balanced offense, they can return to being one of the biggest threats in the league.
Pick: Chiefs
New York Giants at Los Angeles Rams (-7.5)
The Rams didn’t look good in Australia and now have to come back home and fix things. They can beat the Giants, who will be on a short week with a long flight, but winning by more than a touchdown is a tough ask.
Pick: Giants
