The NFL season is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are NFL week 2 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)
Last week: 9-7
Washington Commanders at Green Bay Packers (-3.5)
Green Bay’s new-look defense with Micah Parsons looked dangerous against the Lions in week 1. The offense is still a work in progress, but Matt LaFleur should be able to figure it out. Washington can keep it close, but the Packers can pull away late.
Pick: Packers
Buffalo Bills (-6.5) at New York Jets
The Bills had a great comeback win against the Ravens on Sunday Night Football. Their run defense looked vulnerable, but their offense was on fire to end the game. The Jets played better than expected against the Steelers, but could struggle to keep up with the Bills.
Pick: Bills
Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions (-5.5)
Detroit looked lost in their first game this season with two new coordinators. Chicago’s defense still looks good, especially if they get healthier on the backend. The Lions may win, but the Bears could keep it close, especially with Ben Johnson’s familiarity with the Lions.
Pick: Bears
Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens (-11.5)
Baltimore may have blown a big lead to the Bills, but their offense was great for most of the game. The defense struggled against the Bills’ passing attack, but the Browns don’t pose that same problem.
Pick: Ravens
Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals (-3.5)
Cincinnati snuck away with a win against the Browns in week 1 with their defense playing well. The offense will catch up soon and at home against the Jaguars presents a good opportunity for that.
Pick: Bengals
Los Angeles Rams (-5.5) at Tennessee Titans
The Rams defeated the Texans in week 1 and Matt Stafford’s back injury didn’t seem to impact the game too much. Against the Broncos, the Titans were not on the same page offensively, so the Rams should take advantage.
Pick: Rams
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys (-5.5)
Russell Wilson is set to start again this week for the Giants. They struggled to move the ball against the Commanders. Dallas has had extra time to prepare for this game and their offense looked solid against the Eagles.
Pick: Cowboys
New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins (-1)
It couldn’t get much uglier for the Dolphins in week 1, as the Colts blew them out. The pressure is on, but luckily, the Patriots didn’t look great against the Raiders. Miami is at home and McDaniel should be able to improve the offense.
Pick: Dolphins
San Francisco 49ers (-4.5) at New Orleans Saints
The Saints didn’t look great in week 1 against the Cardinals, but the 49ers are banged up. George Kittle is out and Brock Purdy could miss the game too. Kyle Shanahan should have the offense schemed up to win and cover, but watch the injury report later in the week.
Pick: 49ers
Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5)
Pittsburgh’s offense looked a lot better than last year now that Aaron Rodgers is leading the way. The Seahawks have a good defense, but may find it hard to keep up offensively.
Pick: Steelers
Carolina Panthers at Arizona Cardinals (-7)
The Cardinals defeated the Saints in week 1, but could have played better. On the other hand, the Panthers had a rough week 1. While the Cardinals should be able to win, a touchdown spread is a bit much for these teams.
Pick: Panthers
Denver Broncos (-2) at Indianapolis Colts
In week 1, the Colts dominated the Dolphins. Denver’s defense will prose a different problem for Daniel Jones. The Broncos should be able to force turnovers and set up Bo Nix for more success than in week 1.
Pick: Broncos
Philadelphia Eagles at Kansas City Chiefs (-1.5)
In a rematch of last season’s Super Bowl, the Eagles can win again on the road. They brought back plenty of their key players from last year’s team. Kansas City traveled back from Brazil and has some issues with their wide receiver core.
Pick: Eagles
Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings (-4.5)
Kevin O’Connell has done a great job at scheming offense for his quarterbacks to be successful. He should have a good plan for the Falcons, while Brian Flores has a tough defense for Michael Penix Jr. to prepare for.
Pick: Vikings
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Houston Texans (-2)
The Texans lost to the Rams in week 1 on the road, but kept it close. They don’t have the best offensive line, but their defense and quarterback makes up for that. It should be a close game, especially against Todd Bowles’s defense, but the Texans should be able to protect their home turf.
Pick: Texans
Los Angeles Chargers (-3) at Las Vegas Raiders
The Chargers looked ready to play week 1 in Brazil and that should carry over against the Raiders. Even though it is on the road, the Chargers’ defense should be able to slow an offense that is still getting its bearings with a lot of new pieces.
Pick: Chargers
