NFL Week 2 is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 2 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)
Last week: 9-7
NFL Week 2 Picks Against the Spread
Thursday Night Football
Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles (-7)
Things looked rough for Minnesota in week 1. They are a team that plays just about everyone closely. Philadelphia is a much better team and can win by a touchdown, but winning by more will be tough on a short week.
Pick: Vikings
Sunday Afternoon
Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions (-6)
Detroit was able to get a big week 1 win and has had some time to rest. Seattle was a playoff team last season, but lost to the Rams in week 1. They can rebound and at least keep the game in week 2 close.
Pick: Seahawks
Los Angeles Chargers (-3) at Tennessee Titans
The Chargers lost a shootout to the Dolphins in week 1, but the good news is they showed the offense still has plenty of fire-power. That is something the Titans do not have. Justin Herbert can help his team win and cover on the road.
Pick: Chargers.
Kansas City Chiefs (-3) at Jacksonville Jaguars
Kansas City may have lost in week 1, but they could have Chris Jones and Travis Kelce back for this game. They also have some extra rest and time to prepare for this game. Jacksonville can put up a fight, but will likely lose by more than a field goal.
Pick: Chiefs
Green Bay Packers (-1.5) at Atlanta Falcons
The Packers were able to take advantage of a bad Bears’ offensive line in week 1 and Jordan Love didn’t have to do too much to win the game. This week he will have to go on the road against a better defense. Atlanta can protect their home field after defeating the Panthers in week 1.
Pick: Falcons
Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals (-3.5)
Cincinnati lost in week 1, but they have a mental block against the Browns and it was bad weather. Baltimore defeated the Texans, but suffered plenty of injuries along the way. With the weather projected to be good and the game being in Cincinnati, the Bengals can win and cover.
Pick: Bengals
Chicago Bears at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3)
While Tom Brady isn’t on the Bucs anymore, they proved in week 1 that they still have several good players by beating the Vikings. The Bears have plenty of work to do on their offensive line and defense. Tampa Bay can win and cover, while Chicago is still figuring themselves out.
Pick: Buccaneers
Las Vegas Raiders at Buffalo Bills (-9.5)
Buffalo is coming off a short week and they didn’t look particularly good against the Jets. While a win over the Raiders looks like a good pick, winning by at least 10 seems like a lot.
Pick: Raiders
Indianapolis Colts (-1) at Houston Texans
The Colts and Texans both have rookie quarterbacks, but the difference in this game will be the defense. Indianapolis has a quality one, while Houston still has a lot of young developing players.
Pick: Colts
Sunday Evening
New York Giants (-5) at Arizona Cardinals
Things didn’t look pretty for the Giants in week 1, but it was a bad weather game against a good team. They will be playing the Cardinals in week 2 on the road. Arizona played Washington tough last week, but ultimately will likely be one of the worst teams in the league. The Giants should rebound.
Pick: Giants
San Francisco 49ers (-8) at Los Angeles Rams
San Francisco had one of the best performances of week 1. They have their second straight road game against the Rams. The 49ers can win, but Matt Stafford looks a lot healthier this season, so he may be able to keep it within a touchdown.
Pick: Rams
New York Jets at Dallas Cowboys (-9.5)
This line is largely impacted by the Aaron Rodgers injury. The Cowboys’ defense will make things tough for Zach Wilson and Dallas can cover a large spread.
Pick: Cowboys
Washington Commanders at Denver Broncos (-3.5)
The Commanders won a close game against the Cardinals in week 1, but still have plenty to prove. Denver lost to the Raiders in a close game, but the offense showed some improvement over last season. The Broncos can win and cover at home.
Pick: Broncos
Sunday Night Football
Miami Dolphins (-2) at New England Patriots
Tua Tagovailoa is the early front-runner for the MVP after a great performance against the Chargers. He has played well against the Patriots in his career and can keep that going, as they don’t have the offense to keep up.
Pick: Dolphins
Monday Night Football
New Orleans Saints (-3) at Carolina Panthers
New Orleans won a narrow game against the Titans in week 1. In week 2, they can take advantage of the Panthers’ lackluster offensive line play and a rookie quarterback.
Pick: Saints
Cleveland Browns (-1.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers did lose some players to injury in week 1, but Mike Tomlin always seems to keep things steady. Cleveland won a bad weather game in week 1 and they are probably a better team than last season, but it is a tall order to go on the road and beat Pittsburgh.
Pick: Steelers
