The New York Jets have acquired edge rusher Shaq Lawson from the Houston Texans for a 2022 6th round pick. With Carl Lawson going down for the season, there was a pretty big void on the edge for the Jets, and many fans were hoping GM Joe Douglas would make a move. And that he did.
Lawson is an upgrade over any other edge on the roster, but he has a lot of work to do to replace Lawson. His biggest sack total for any season since he entered the league is 6.5 in 2019, but he is still young, and under Robert Saleh he can hopefully elevate his play.
Fans will be happy at what the Jets had to give up to get Lawson, as they only gave up a 6th rounder. Lawson is also 27, and he still has a lot of time to improve his game before his body starts breaking down on him.
Overall, this trade looks like an absolute win for the Jets, and fans will be happy with GM Joe “Joey D.” Douglas. The Jets get bigger and don’t have to give up much to do so.
