The New York Giants will franchise tag defensive lineman Leonard Williams according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Williams, 26, has played for the Giants for the last year and a half after starting his career with the Jets. He had a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2020. For his career, Williams has 29 sacks and 48 tackles for loss.
The Giants and Williams will still work on a long term deal, but if they can’t reach one, Williams will be paid $19.3 million.
With Williams back on the squad, the Giants will be looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
