Kessler, 26, has received some playing time in his NFL career with the Browns and Jaguars. He has thrown for 2,215 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions on 64.2 percent completion.
The Patriots will now have Tom Brady, Jarrett Stidham and Kessler in their quarterback room. Stidham entered the game last week and threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown. Kessler could battle him for the no. 2 quarterback spot.
