Molly Lillard, daughter of the famous football player Albert “Al Toon” Toon passed away today, due to a murder-suicide carried out by her husband.
Police found Mrs. Lillard with gunshot wounds outside her own home, with her husband, Royce Dale Lillard III, barricaded inside the home according to Az Central. Mrs. Lillard was quickly transported to the hospital but tragically succumbed to her wounds on the way. Police later found Mr.Lillard, dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body right in front of their 8-month old infant. The child suffered no injuries during the incident.
“At this point in the investigation, all indications are that this was a murder-suicide,” Officer Kevin Watts told local news outlets.
Remembering Molly Lillard
Like her father, Mrs. Lillard excelled in athletics growing up. She was a star volleyball player for Middleton High School, where she led the team in two WIAA Division 1 state tournaments in, 2008 and 2009.
“I coached her all the way back in the club when she was 13 and the one thing that stands out is just how great Molly and her entire family were,” coach Franco Marcos said. Marcos coached Mrs. Lillard all through her 4-years of high school volleyball.
“She had a ‘get me the ball’ attitude and she knew what to do with it. When it was crunch time, she wanted the ball,” he added.
Mrs. Lillard graduated in 2010, and later committed to the University of Michigan. Lillard also joined Michigans volleyball team and earned honorable mention all-American honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2013.
We are extremely heartbroken and at a loss for words at this moment,” the Michigan Volleyball sports page tweeted. “The Michigan Volleyball family is sending all of our love to Molly Toon and her family. She was an amazing friend, daughter, teammate, and mother.”
Mrs, Lillard is survived by her father, Albert Lee Toon, her brother Nick Toon, her sisters, Kirby, and Sydney Toon, and her 8-month-old infant.
