Chargers running back Melvin Gordon will reportedly test free agency. He and Los Angeles are expected to part ways, or at least not come to a deal before the free agency begins on March 18. He had not made it official until today, however.
ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.
Gordon has been a San Diego/Los Angeles Charger since entering the league in 2015. The two-time Pro Bowl selection played in 12 games last season, rushing for 612 yards and eight touchdowns. He also added 296 yards and another touchdown through the air.
The Chargers have already lost their franchise-staple quarterback Phillip Rivers in the 2020 offseason. If they lose Gordon as well, it may be fair to assume the team will lean into a rebuild. However, they still have a lot of talent at the skill positions and on the defense.
Free agency begins March 18, and Gordon will be able to talk to other teams starting on the 16th of this month.
