Scherzer is one of the most accomplished pitchers in baseball playing today. He is an eight-time All-Star selection (2013-2019 and 2021), three-time Cy Young winner, led the MLB in strikeouts three times and in wins four times. He also has pitched two no-hitters and is a World Series champion with the 2019 Washington Nationals.
Washington traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the 2021 trade deadline. The Dodgers, despite being defending champions and having one of the deepest rosters in the game, were ousted in the NLCS by the eventual World Series champion Atlanta Braves. He reached a career milestone of 3,000 strikeouts in a Dodgers uniform, as well.
Scherzer will now be the Mets’ ace for at least two seasons.
