Madden 22: Most Underrated New York Jets

Publish Date: August 15, 2021

The Madden 22 ratings have finally been unveiled. As always, there are some questionable ratings for players on every single team. In this series, TGH writers will give their opinions on the most overrated and underrated players on each roster.

Here are the players on the New York Jets that have been the most underrated by Madden 22.

C.J. Mosley

C.J. Mosley last saw the field in Week 1 of 2019, but for one half, he looked like the best football player on the planet. Against the Buffalo Bills, in one half, he had an interception returned for a touchdown, a fumble recovery, two pass deflections, and 6 tackles. He then tore his ACL and missed the rest of the season. In 2020, Covid-19 caused him to opt out of the season. In Madden 22, Mosley is rated at an 84 overall. This puts him in the middle of players like Deion Jones and Myles Jack, who are both rated sub-70 by PFF, and just ahead of Rashaan Evans, who stands at an 83 overall. Rashaan Evans was given a 53.7 PFF rating in 2020.

Granted, PFF ratings are not the end-all-be-all when it comes to how good a player is, but it is a good place to start. Mosley is one of the better coverage linebackers in the NFL, yet when it comes to his Man Coverage rating, it is a lowly 65. This is below average at his position, which is a little disrespectful. Overall, Madden 22 wasn’t too far off with his rating, but I would like to see it go up a couple points.

Madden 22 Rating: 84

Adjusted Rating: 86 (+2)

Alijah Vera-Tucker

Alijah Vera-Tucker is rated at a 72 overall in Madden 22. In comparison, Penei Sewell, who was selected 7 picks ahead of Vera-Tucker in the 2021 NFL Draft, is a 75 overall. Neither have taken an NFL snap yet, but the difference between picks 7 and 14 is apparently 3 overall. Also, despite being touted for his pass-blocking ability coming out of USC, Vera-Tucker sports a 73 Pass Block rating!

For comparison, Pat Elflein, who gave up 38 pressures in 2019 and had the lowest PFF Pass Blocking grade in the NFL came into Madden 21 with a 70 pass block rating. Yes, this means that Alijah Vera-Tucker is slightly better than the worst pass blocking Guard in the league at pass blocking. Raising that number to, say, 77 would be more appropriate, and would put him at only 2 points behind Sewell. However, as was the case with C.J. Mosley, the overall rating is likely not too far off for never having seen Vera-Tucker take the field.

Madden 22 Rating: 72

Adjusted Rating: 74 (+2)

Elijah Moore

It is understandable why Madden 22 has Elijah Moore at a 73 overall. Moore has never played a snap in the NFL. Despite this, all of the hype coming out of training camp combined with the praise coming from people like Daniel Jeremiah and A.J. Brown should bump his rating up a few points. In fact, A.J. Brown, one of the best receivers in the NFL, recently said he would put every single game check on Moore winning Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Comparing Moore to players like Ja’Marr Chase and DeVonta Smith puts his rating in a better perspective. However, doing this reveals a slightly bigger issue than Moore’s rating. Madden 22 has a lot of rookies at very low ratings. Obviously, Moore was drafted 34th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, while guys like Chase and Smith were drafted at 5th and 12th, respectively. Because of this, you have to figure that Moore’s ratings would be lower by default, but 73 still feels low.

Moore has been compared to the likes of Tyler Lockett, who stands at an 88 overall, and Brandin Cooks, who is currently an 85 overall. These are both guys who have played well for years, but they are 15 and 12 overall higher than him. Regardless, expect him to significantly outperform his rookie ratings, much like Justin Jefferson did in 2020.

Madden 22 Rating: 73

Adjusted Rating: 76 (+3)

Summary

Overall, Madden 22 was pretty accurate when it comes to rating the New York Jets. The ratings here were the most egregious examples of incorrect ratings, in my opinion, but they still weren’t very off. The Jets do come into Madden 22 as the lowest rated team, but they shouldn’t perform like the worst team in 2021. This has been the most underrated New York Jets in Madden 22.
