The Madden 22 ratings have finally been unveiled. As always, there are some questionable ratings for players on every single team. In this series, TGH writers will give their opinions on the most overrated and underrated players on each roster. Here are the players on the Dallas Cowboys that have been the most overrated by Madden 22.
The former first round pick in 2017 comes in as the best overall safety on the Dallas Cowboys. This might come as a surprise as he just signed with the team almost three weeks ago. However, giving Hooker a 77 overall after coming off a torn Achillies seems a bit too high.
In two games last season, Hooker had seven total tackles. His 77 overall ranks him as the 21st best safety in the game over players like Ronnie Harrison, Damontae Kazee and Xavier Woods. The former Ohio State star is arguably the most talented of these players, but missing all of last season probably shouldn’t have him at a 77.
Madden 22 rating: 77
Adjusted rating: 75 (-2)
The 27-year-old cornerback comes in as the best overall cornerback on the Dallas Cowboys. He comes in with a 76 overall and a 93 speed. However, the former Purdue star shouldn’t rated this high. For starters, he missed six games last year due to injury. Additionally, in games that he started, Brown allowed a 1.7 percent burn rate (ranked #32), a 76.7 percent catch rate allowed (ranked #76) and a 108.8 passer rating allowed (ranked #65).
Brown was suppose to be one of Dallas’ up and coming defensive stars in 2020. However, injuries really affected his play and his potential. As a result, giving the 5-foot-11 cornerback, a 76 overall rating just seems a tad bit higher than what he should be. He is rated higher than players like Eli Apple, Trevon Diggs and even Jourdan Lewis. Brown could prove to breakout this season, but for right now, he should be lower than his current overall.
Madden 22 rating: 76
Adjusted rating: 74 (-2)
This one might come as a surprise, but Vander Esch should probably not be in the 80’s to start the season. The former first round pick comes in as an 80 overall to start the initial Madden ratings. With his change to weak side linebacker, he is ranked with players like T.J. Watt. Chandler Jones and Joey Bosa. Furthermore, the 25-year-old linebacker ranks one overall lower then Bud Dupree and two overalls lower than Mattthew Judon.
Vander Esch had potential coming into the league with 140 tackles in his rookie season. However, injuries have limited him tremendously. In the past two seasons, he only has 132 total tackles combined. He probably shouldn’t be rated much lower, but he shouldn’t be the same overall as Benardick McKinney who has had three 100 tackle seasons in his career. The former Boise State star is a solid linebacker in the league. However, he has to stay healthy and play a full 16 game season.
Madden 22 rating: 80
Adjusted rating: 79 (-1)

Wow…McKinney just got released by Miami, and he graded out terribly last season. Tackle numbers mean nothing, and Vander Esch absolutely should be rated better than a guy like that. FYI, Vander Esch stopped being about “potential” the moment he played to a Pro Bowl level as a rookie…he was a verified talent, not a potential one. It’s all about healthy with him, a legit issue but not one of ability.
FYI, Anthony Brown was never ever projected to be a “star” for Dallas. After his surprisingly solid rookie season, it was hoped he could settle into being a longtime solid starter. He’s failed to keep up to that level; star has never even been seen as a possibility.
