Louis Nix, Former NFL Defensive Tackle, Found Dead

Louis Nix III, former defensive tackle for the NFL, found dead at the age of 29 after going missing three days before.

Nix went missing after visiting his father’s house last Wednesday. On Saturday, police notified the public that Nix was located, but details were not available at the time.

Promising news quickly turned tragic, however. On Sunday morning, Nix’s mother confirmed his death after Jacksonville police pulled his vehicle out of a pond near his apartment.

Details regarding his death have yet to be announced.

“Louis Nix, ‘Irish Chocolate,’ we carry these memories until we see you again,” Brian Kelly head football coach at Notre Dame.

Remembering Louis Nix

Louis Nix, grew up as a native to Jacksonville Florida. He attended attended William M. Raines High School, and played both for the football team, the basketball team, and participated in track and field. At Raines High School, Nix recorded 50 tackles,10 sacks, and named all-First Coast pick as defensive lineman by the Florida Times-Union.

Nix made his college debut at Notre Dame during his sophomore, after not playing as a freshman, in 2011. During that season, Nix started 11 out of 13 games, recording 50 tackles, two of which were sacks.

At Notre Dame, teammates and coaches gave Nix the nickmane “Big Lou”, and best known for his off-feild charisma. Fans saw him as a favorite on the team.

“Just horrible news, one of the nicest men I met while he was a player at ND…..such a great personality” Mike Golic, a Notre Dame alumni tweeted on Febuary 27.

The Houston Texans  drafted Nix in the 2014 draft, in the third round, and as the 84th pick over all. However, the Texans released him in 2015, after Nix underwent three knee surgeries.

His NFL career was far from over though. In 2015 , Nix signed with the New York Giants, but later put onto the practice squad.

In 2016, Nix signed with the Washington Football Team after his release from the Giants. Then later to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 2017, the Jaguars waived him from the their practice squad.

Nix is survived by his mother and father. He lived to be 29 years old.
