The Los Angeles Rams are sending Aqib Talib and a fifth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for a future draft pick. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news.
Los Angeles wanted to move Talib so that they can afford to give Jalen Ramsey an extension after the season. By giving up Talib and a pick, they are getting the Dolphins to take Talib’s salary, which will give them some flexibility with Ramsey.
This move comes as a surprise for the Dolphins as they are a winless team and are acquiring a veteran cornerback who may not be with the team when they are ready to compete. They can afford to take on his contract though for now, but may not be able to sign him for the future.
Talib, 33, is a five-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro. He has 125 passes defended and 35 interceptions in his career. Talib will be a free agent after the season.
